Son suggested tonight that we could come up to Ann Arbor, where we have family, to meet for Thanksgiving, since he only has Thursday through Sunday off. We’ll be flying from NOLA. Can’t imagine what it would be like up there at that time of year. We’d stay in a hotel near the Michigan campus, as our family works there and is walking distance. Need advice/pointers from those of you who live in the great white north!

Thanksgiving is late this year I think(?). We got married in that area November 20 and it was the first snow of the year - mostly wet snow but you need to now it will probably be fairly cold - be prepared for 30’s, 40’s and if you are lucky, 50. The leaves will be down and done pretty much. Shouldn’t be too busy on campus but I would avoid shopping off campus since Black Friday/Holiday shopping will be in full swing.

What else did you want to know about??

Well, didn’t know if Thanksgiving is a big Michigan rivalry football game, where we won’t get a hotel. I’m from the south, and everything shuts down with snow, so wondering if we’ll be able to fly in. How bad does it have to be for the flights to be delayed/cancelled? Thanks so much!

Surprised that Southwest does not have a direct flight from MSP to DTW. We’ll be coming from NOLA and son from MSP, so we actually could take one leg of the trip together, even both ways, if we get connections in Chicago. I’m hoping the Chicago airport problems are fixed by then. But would like to get feedback on Midway during the winter, whether flights would be cancelled. Now, to let my BIL’s family know we plan on dropping in for Thanksgiving! Worse case scenario, Thanksgiving in Chicago might be an option!

IT has to be absolutely abysmal for airports to shut down. Very rare event- not one I’d really worry about. Delays, possibly, but not total cancellations.

I wouldn’t worry about not getting a hotel in Ann Arbor around Thanksgiving… especially with the way the team looks this year.

S flies through Midway every week. Preferable to O’Hare and he would pick it all the time if he could.

The last football game is away so nothing to worry about there.

Snow at thanksgiving is rare, very rare but it will be cold.

Thanksgiving is in the middle of gun deer hunting but I can’t imagine there is much going on in Ann Arbor lol!

Have fun, Ann Arbor is a fun town.
