We’ll be visiting NYC over Thanksgiving. Any suggestions for a restaurant for our Thanksgiving meal? Thanks.

The Plaza, Waldorf or Pierre. It will be expensive, but the atmosphere will be well worth it.

Although the Plaza and the Pierre have always been great places to eat in NYC, both have recently undergone extensive renovations and the dining options have changed, and are still limited at the Plaza.

erisamom, if you’re staying in a hotel in Manhattan, the hotel dining room will undoubtedly have a Thanksgiving menu offering. I would recommend making your dinner reservations ASAP as that week is the busiest week of the year in the city. Many city restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving. One of our favorites for Thanksgiving was The River Cafe in Brooklyn - a perfect location, excellent food and exquisite service. Several of the steakhouses in the city offer Thanksgiving dinner, Gallagher’s probably being one of them.

This may sound strange, but I’ve always heard that Virgil’s (on 43rd or44th and Bdwy) serves a great BBQ turkey dinner on Thanksgiving. Reservations are necessary. It’s not expensive, and it is a fun place. I’ve never been there for Thanksgiving, but am just passing it along. It sounds like an untypical meal!

When we lived in Germany, my two boys who were stateside gathered up a few friends in NYC and went to Ellen’s Stardust Diner (reservations required on Thanksgiving). They had a ball!

3 years ago we took a dinner cruise on Thanksgiving–started at a big complex on the west side of Manhattan (sorry, don’t remember the name–in Chelsea, maybe?) The food was reasonable and it was a fun experience.

Tavern on the Green. The family Thanksgiving is always at my house and when we were renovating we decided to take everyone to the parade and then go into Tavern on the Green for the Thanksgiving meal. Great time! And, by the way, I prefer watching the parade uptown like that because it’s less crowded and not “for the tv cameras” which means you don’t have to wait for the performances in front of Macy’s. It also is earlier - roughly 9-11 instead of 10-12.

Tavern filed for Chapter 11. I do not know if that fact is important, but I think it has to affect the experience (which was magnificent). It’s a lot of money, and I want OP to get her/his money’s worth.

Nothing has changed at Tavern since declaring Chapter 11. It’s expensive but a NY Landmark and a wonderful place for Thanksgiving.

Did Tavern on the Green work out the issues with their employees? I had read in restaurant industry publications that they were protesting in some way.
