That credit union application form...

I’m thinking about joining the Princeton University Federal Credit Union (PUFCU), but I’m having some trouble filling out the form:

What’s my “Princeton University ID No.”?
Do I write my campus address as “### X-Y Hall”?
What’s my campus phone number? (the housing assignment form appears to list two numbers or a number and an extension…?)
What’s my “Taxpayer Identification Number”?
What’s with the Joint Owner? Is that just having a parent sign on to bail me out if there’s trouble? I can leave out the Joint Owner, right?

So if anyone can shed some light on the above questions, I would really appreciate the help! Thank you!

I was going to tell you to look for your ID no. on your prox, but I guess you don’t have one yet :). It should be 9 digits and start with 0016. Campus address is fine. Use the people search on the P’ton main page to find your phone number (609 986 xxxx). The TIN is something arcane and American that I have no idea about.

What advantages are there to using the credit union instead of, say, BofA?

TIN is your SSN. ID number you can look up in the LDAP directory, if you know how–ldap.princeton.edu.

No, there really is no advantage to using the Credit Union…I actually don’t know anyone at Princeton who uses the Credit Union…

It is better to bank which has branches in your home town. Three national banks (within walking distance on Nassau) that I know of are BoA, PNC and Wachovia. They all have zero cost student checking accounts.

And Bank of America has an ATM at Frist.
