HMoG, that stench is wafting in all the way from Jacksonville. My Titans are really stinking it up today … worse than any other game this season. As the season has progressed, the losses don’t sting as much as they did at first. I’m just glad this season is over. Next year can only be better!

SplashMom, please remember us poor souls in Houston - we let the Oilers go to Tennessee, and ultimately replaced them with the (shudder) Texans. It could be a LOT worse.

I lived in Jax for 3 years back in the late 1970s, and the city did have a noticeable stench — it always smelled like a wet paper bag from the pulp factories.

Yes, although they are pretty well set for draft picks, I’d rather have the wins and a lower draft pick. There’s always next year.

FFS, we can commiserate together. I’m pretty sure the Texans have the first draft pick. They had an even worse year than us.

No matter, I will always support my boys. It’s easy to support them when they’re winning, but it takes a true fan to stick with them when they’ve had a season such as this. I have never left a game before the clock read 0:00. I figure if my boys are going to stay out there on the field until the clock ticks down, I’m going to stay and support them. No sweeter a time did that pay off than when we played the Bills in January of 2000 and ran the Music City Miracle to propel us in to the playoffs and on to the Super Bowl. There were only 16 seconds left on the clock and many of the fans had left the coliseum. I still get cold chills when I remember that play.

Yes, the salary cap really did us in this past year. I don’t see them letting that happen again. I’m hoping for a much better season next year, but honestly don’t see us doing great things. I think it will take a couple of more years, at least, until we are at the top of the conference (heck, even at the top of our division). McNair won’t get his $50M bonus and I don’t believe Hopkins or Olson will get theirs ($5M each), either. They’ll (Olson and Hopkins) probably be cut. If Hopkins takes a pay cut, we may be able to keep him. I’ve tried to understand the salary cap for years, but don’t totally get it yet. I have a bad feeling I may have watched McNair play his last game, but I’d like to see him go out in a flame of glory rather than this season we just completed.

When Miami was competing for a baseball team, I was really hoping they’d call it the Humidity. That way, fans watching the game could turn to each other and knowingly say, “It’s not the Heat, it’s the Humidity.” Alas, they didn’t pick up on my wishes.

LOL I can’t complain, I’m a Pats fan; have been all my life! Went to the game today vs. Miami Dolphins (not humidity), and watched Flutie drop-kick an extra point. Pretty cool, even if I did freeze my *** off!!

Good luck to your Bears, TheDad. Division title and first round bye must feel pretty darned good.

I can’t begin to imagine why your “Humidity” idea didn’t catch on. ;)

BJM8, I didn’t see that Pats/Dolphins game, but I heard about that drop kick Flutie made. First one in 60+ years, I heard. Congrats to your Pats on their division title, too.

Belichick set up the Boston sportswriters for that and they didn’t even know it. A week ago Friday, Belichick cancelled his normal press conference and invited all of the writers into the film room, where he proceeded to show them film from NFL games in the 1940s, while giving an advanced seminar on the state of the game 60 years ago.

I felt bad for Nick Saban this afternoon. Managing to eek out a 2-point win with his starters over the third-stringers with Belichick trying to lose the game. That is humiliating.

As a Steeler fan first (then a Pats fan) I am glad to be avoiding the Pats in the first round. Cincy may have peaked too soon, unike Steelers and Pats. Hoping for a Jags win if the Steelers win or a Pats win if the Steelers lose.

Either way, I’ll root for both over Indy or Denver. Looks like an AFC year this year.

Well, I am laughing… I had no idea WHAT this thread was about and opened it cause of the title, “That stench”…I was assuming perhaps it was about the piles of laundry these college kids brought home on break but well, uh, nope, I was wrong…

SplashMom, thanks. I’ve followed the Bears for more than 20 years but Im not as impassioned an NFL fan as I am baseball (Cubs) or college football (UCLA). Indeed, with respect to the latter, I have an on-line presence equivalent to that of TheDad. I’m having to swallow very very very hard to root for Texas this year but against the Forces of Darkness, there’s no choice.

Susan, I had no idea what this thread about, either. Usually I don’t open threads with ambiguous titles…

finally the Redskins are back in the playoffs!

We finally beat the Cowboys not once but twice in the same year, that would’ve been enough to make it a good year for me.

Looking to give Joe Gibbs an even 20 career playoff wins (he’s at 16 now), with 4 more this season as we take the Superbowl! (… or more likely not).

… I was wondering what this thread was about when I saw the title, I was ready to post about the what I can only imagine is a dead small (hopefully) animal creating an unbearable smell in my basement.
