Thayer vs. Nobles

Hello all, Could I get your thoughts on Thayer vs. Nobles in terms ranking and college matriculation? Thanks

If you are choosing a boarding school based on prestige, you are basing your choices on the wrong reasons. If you are choosing a boarding school based upon college matriculation data, you are choosing a boarding school for the wrong reason.

As I have said many many times on this forum, do not go to boarding school if your only purpose is to use it as a stepping stone to a top college; that reasoning is just folly. A boarding school may give a student the tools with which to develop him/herself into a viable candidate, but others schools may as well.

College matriculation data needs to be viewed in context. Depending on the BS and college a well as the particular year, the data will be skewed by recruited athletes and legacies, which may not be applicable to you.

Agreed. Thank you so much for the helpful guidance. My intention was to ask the community about thoughts on academic rigor and opportunities in the arts at both schools. Thanks

Both schools provide their college matriculation lists.

Google:

College Placement Thayer

College Placement Nobles.

Notable differences.

Whether an altruistic reason or not, college placement is a concern for many–probably most–boarding school families. This concern is recognized by most boarding schools which, in turn, provide one year & five year college matriculation lists for all to see.

Nobles is the better school. Note that Nobles is not a 7 day boarding school.

04/2021 Atlantic mag article will give you an idea of matriculation (50 to Harvard over last 5 years) but most are through sports and very wealthy families. Roughly 20%-25% each year to Ivies+Stanford. Then next 10%-30% to top 15-20 colleges.

Let me know if you have more questions.

I think it depends on what you want from a school and what kind of student you are. Thayer has a much more varied student body in terms of academic abilities. Nobles is definitely a more well respected school in terms of academics.

This is why I ask what you are looking for. They aren’t schools I’d lump together unless I lived in between them and was considering which one to go to as a day student (and not applying to BS). And if you live in that area and are looking at Nobles, a more appropriate comparison would be Milton.
