The 15%-20% decrease

So one SAT tutor told me that there is ALWAYS a 15% difference between the practice tests and the real thing. For example, if you’d get 2000 at in practice tests, you’d get 1700 in real exam. Is that really true? Can we get answers to this from those who have entered the SAT already? Discuss please!

The difference would definitely be not 300-400 points!! O_o Unless you have a SERIOUS anxiety that turns off your brain. You can expect 60-100 point decrease if you get nervous or can’t concentrate well. You may get the same results or even have a rise of your score if you are lucky to encounter a test that is easy for you. You can’t know for sure what will happen.

My 2 real SAT scores were lower than the scores I was getting from the Blue Book but I know what happened exactly.

I took the first test with over-confidence. I was thinking “wow, the test is so easy, I don’t even need to put that much attention into it”. Yeah, the score showed me that I cannot treat the test like that. I have to be serious and attentive ALWAYS.

While taking the second test I had the opposite extreme mindset. All I could think of was “wow, this is hard… I am failing”. And also there was one supervisor who was distracting my attention walking too close by me (even hitting my desk accidently?, I am not sure if he was being clumsy or specifically trying to get my attention :S) or doing push-ups by the pillar which was right next to my desk (crazy, I know!). So yeah, this crazy supervisor was consistently breaking my concentration.

If none of these things happen^^, then you can be sure you’ll be fine. And I am hoping I won’t get a crazy supervisor the next time or I will go to complain.

Oh, and that crazy supervisor was very bad at tracking time too. I am usually relaxed till I hear that 5 min. are left. One time he looked to his watch and said “oh, hey, 2 min. are left”! And at that time I had like 8 questions left to solve :S The second SAT was quite a disaster for me. I scored 2030 though. Really good for a hard test, many distractions and bad time management.

Well to be honest, I thought that a 15% decrease is just too much. I know I’ll be scared on the test day, but I’ll not be THAT scared. I’m just not sure whether or not can I predict my score. I’ve been doing really good with my practice tests and I really wish to get the same results on the real thing. Who else has opinions regarding that matter?

Hrmm. I always have a 15-20% INCREASE on test day.

In this thread people wrote their best practice scores and some of them wrote what was their real score. It can give you some insight.

On the test day think “I am going to do my best and the score will fairly reflect all the hard work I put into my practice”.

Maybe I can score best on the second trail since all the fear might get to me! I dunno xd
