The 2025 Bag/Purse Thread

I like LeSportSac nylon bags for lightness. I won one at a cancer auction where I was sharing lung health info at a table at the event and wrote the only bid and to my surprise was the winner. It’s very sturdy and extremely light and even washable. It can hold a sweater or wrap if needed.

By the way, they sell little holders you can use to hang your bag attached to the table so the bag isn’t placed in the table or ground. Generally, I keep my bag hooked to the back of my chair or in my lap.

I NEVER set my bag down in any bathroom. Yuck! I keep it on my shoulder or use the hook in the bathroom.

I have those purse holders. I notice when I travel to other countries they often have purse stands or containers to put purses at restaurants. We don’t have them here.

A relative bought this bag and decided it wasn’t right for her and gave it to me. I love it. I wear it crossbody. It is getting dirty and I’m going to attempt to clean it.

I have a good number of bags that I don’t use. I tend to use one for months and switch to another and use that for months. I don’t buy inexpensive bags but I also don’t buy super expensive bags.
I’d be interested in a Clare V bag. I went out with some friends and two of them had bags from tht brand.
Does none else see on instagram the love luxury posts. They resell super high end bags usually Hermes. It’s weirdly entertaining.

Although I liked pretty unique bags, I never carried any name brand until I was in my late 50’s. My first was a Coach from a consignment store, then a brand new Michael Kors Crossbody 6 years ago. It was $200 and I don’t think I’d ever paid more than $75 for a bag.

We started traveling to CA a lot, and I don’t know what happened, but all of a sudden I wanted a high end bag. So, for my 60th, I bought a beige YSL crossbody.

Since then, I have crossed over to the dark side. I now own 3 YSL, 1 Gucci and 2 LV’s and 1 fake LV that everyone loves! I love them all. I’m getting ready to take this one with me to London.

I also own a few Michael Kors that I love and an Embellished Kurt Geiger that is so much fun!

I consider bags a big part of my outfits now, like any accessory. I get more compliments on bags than any jewelry I wear.

I have one sister who collects purses. She really loves them. But eventually she cleans out…and we other sisters get to pick what we want. One time when a different sister cleaned out her bags, our DD was there…and she got to take whatever she wanted!

A friend has this bag and I really want it. But a)I have bags that are in good shape and b)I’m not sure I want to spend the money right now.

I’d like to know if it would be cheaper in Europe, I looked in Prague and did not find that it was but maybe I was looking in the wrong place.

I LOVE this bag. I have bought it twice, and it is just organized for everything and can hold a lot but not be bulky. As much as I love to look at gorgeous structured purses, I always come back to the functionality of the baggalini.

I bought these for stocking stuffers and love them!

I do find Prada, Gucci, Etro and LV cheaper in Europe, especially when you could claim VAT.

I haven’t seen that bag but I like it. I seem to always like the clothes and things you post. We must have similar taste.
I’ve bought several Longchamp bags in Europe. I think they are cheaper. Easiest spot is the airport so you don’t have to worry about getting the VAT back.

I’m quite pleased with my MC Wallace bag, with all its compartments. In one pouch is my epinephrine cases, in another the phone. It is the least $$$ purse I’ve bought in years, but it is so functional.

I  this thread!

I don’t carry a purse, I’d rather use a tiny wallet and put it in my pocket. But I can sometimes appreciate a cross body bag. It’s fun to read about what you all are liking - maybe I’ll be converted…

fwiw my college girl, always a jewelry nut has now started buying vintage bags, mostly Coach (on her own dime) - I hope she’ll be able to fund her ongoing obsession with a well paying STEM career lol…

I generally have a fall/winter bag and a spring/summer bag. My current fall/winter one is a Fossil, which I love.

I have a Baggallini Calais for spring/summer that I’ve had for a couple of years, but it’s a light aqua color and is pretty dirty. If I can’t get it cleaned up, I’ll be looking for something new for our trip to Florida next month.

I bought this crossbody in a fast-fashion store in downtown Brooklyn a few years ago. Daughter’s middle school ruler for size.

This is another crossbody that I bought at a Tibetan-Burmese store in Manhattan’s Chinatown.

And this from Amazon

Nothing cost more than $12.

I would love to carry a wristlet or just a phone case sometimes but, drat, I always need to have reading glasses with me!! It really affects my bag buying.

Once I reached the point where I have to carry two pairs of glasses (progressives and progessive sunglasses. I never go outside without sunglasses.) And a rescue inhaler, pen, phone, keys it was no longer feasible to go out without a bag. It’s just a part of me now, like shoes.

After years of hanging onto a boring black crossbody, I decided that life is too short for carrying a boring purse through it. I did some research what to get for my big birthday and fell in love with a tiny Chanel bag called WOC (wallet on a chain). It still is my favorite! It seriously helped me to pare down the crap I had been carrying in my bag!

Later, when I needed a tote, I got myself a Kate Spade tote in a pattern called “cats and cream.” OMG. I got so many compliments! Then I found another cat-themed bag called Kitty Shopper by Charlotte Olympia. Then by pure chance I came across a resale Catogram LV Speedy that was in almost pristine shape and not overly marked up! So the cat bag theme continued! I kick myself for not buying a Neverfull tote in cat pattern, because these bags now sell double that price! That’s where my cat bag collection stands now!

I have a variety of glasses. Mostly I wear my “computer glasses”. I have a variety of other glasses and clip-on and sunglasses for outdoors. For driving some are in my car and my husband’s car. But where I really luck out is that for intense reading I can just remove my glasses, ie no need to carry reading glasses.

Tip - For those who only need reading glasses in pinch, like with teeny fancy script menu fonts at dimly lit restaurant…. it can be helpful to have a magnifier/light app on cellphone. I have my iphone set up to open the app with triple-click.

Invariably when I just bring my cell phone in its case (that holds 3 credit cards), I find that I would really have liked one of the items in my purse (a mask, my handicapped placard, some cash, etc.). It’s generally easier for me if I just bring the purse along, “just in case” I need something out of it. Haha! It does feel “freer” to not carry a purse. When I travel, I can often put whatever I need in my zippered vest pockets so I don’t need to carry a purse. I like that a lot. In HI, it’s too hot most of the time to wear extra clothing and my pockets are just big enough for my phone in my case.
