“… LinkedIn on Monday released its first-ever Top Attractors list, which includes a ranking of the 40 most sought-after companies around the world. The networking site used its extensive data from more than 433 million members to craft the list, which was created using data on job applications, views on companies’ career pages, member engagement and retention of new hires.” …
Why isn’t Microsoft #1? ;))

MSFT does not use equity compensation as extensively as it used to (and as some
of the others listed ahead of it are doing).
Has anyone noticed that Amazon is number 5 on this list? So much for corporate evilness, I guess.
You can tell this is global, several of the companies on the list would not exactly be considered great companies to work for but are known as places where foreign tech workers predominate and can get jobs. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I guess Shell must be one of the most attractive employers in the world if you are not one of my friends who was among the 10,000 employees Shell fired in the wake of the collapse of oil prices.
I worked at one of these. It is not “all that”. Very popular for people trying to get in, but less popular with the actual employees and alums. And I don’t know what “retention of new hires” data they are using, that looks fishy to me for a couple of these. Amazon has a very low retention rate.
I work at a place 99.99999% of people have never heard of. we do NOT get fresh squeezed orange juice , sushi and pizza delivered to our desk or have a chicken wing and salad restaurant on site open 24/7 for free. no slides from the top of the building to the lobby. but I would not trade my job for a job at any silicon valley company many of which are here today gone tomorrow.I could not handle the fortune 500 culture or the silicon valley culture either. I just work with regular people most who did not even go to college. but we do a great job and the company earns money doing it and we get great pay and benefits.
p.s. while we do not have 7 free gourmet restaurants on site or a free laundry service…we do have 3 microwaves and 2 toaster ovens!
sister has/is working for 2 of the top 5. She despised one of them; the $ was not worth it.
It’s such an odd conglomeration of industries that it’s meaningless. I assure you my friends at HBO would have zero desire to work at Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley; they would consider moving money around booooring compared to creating and marketing the hot new shows that everyone is talking about. (Of course, the same works in reverse, and you can substitute many of the companies asked about above.) It depends on what you want to do, of course.
Instead of LinkedIn, I like Glassdoor as a source of company into. People rate and write online reviews for companies they work for (and where they interview).
I’m surprised no airlines on the list
GMTplus7
I am sure spirit airlines has an awesome culture!
the way they treat customers is awesome so I am sure working for them is awesome too!
on a side note they do have some really good ad campaigns!
