The Arcade Fire

Does anyone else here like them, I can’t believe I missed their concert, they’re supposed to be amazing. At least so my friends that went say/id.

I really like Wake Up and Rebellion (Lies).

Just curious.

i’m seeing them in february :). can’t wait.

I think that The Funeral is a great album. However-- and I realize that this is true of all things indie-- it is incredibly overrated. Many places (including the most useless, pretentious website on the internet) have named it the album of the year, and it just isn’t.

That’s alright, though, being overrated can’t be held against an artist. I’d like to see them too, I hope you guys have fun at the concerts.

people judge albums nowadays by just downloading a couple singles off them from the internet. not that that’s bad, but you really need to experience this album from beginning to finish. the cohesiveness of the songs, the hooks, the song writing, it all comes together and really left me at least… i really don’t know, but this is really one of my favorite albums of the year. listen to Funeral from start to finish at least three times, and tell me again if it’s overrated. if anything, this album isn’t getting enough respect, it’s the best thing to come out of pop music in the past 5 years(not like that’s an accomplishment though). maybe i’m just jaded from the overly melodramatic bands like DC and the shallowness of jimmy eat world… it’s just refreshing to see a good, sincere album like this to come out.

good call WillyWonka.

personally I thought it was good, but I can’t see myself still listening to this album a year from now. still it’s nice while it’s still fresh. and AceRockolla, I’m just kinda jaded myself, but not on the emo/punk stuff, but on the whole “indie” scene the AC are part of, like there’s been a glut of these type bands, and it’s all starting to sound like one big noisy blur, if you know what I mean.

the last band to come out of pop music i have heard that has sounded like the arcade fire is the pixies? i think they really have a unique sound. how can you not be jaded on emo/punk music. you hear the same elementary chords and eerily similar but shallow and weepy lyrics in most emo/punk songs. it’s hard to find an ounce of originality out there in pop music today, and that’s probably why so many “indie”(i really don’t like that word) receive so much praise from music aficionados- they’re willing to experiment, stretch their bounds, not settle for the dumbed-down crap made today. some bands, like jimmy eat world, i would not mind at all. but the fact is, they’re on their 4th or 5th album now and they’re still (with weak, weak lyrics i may add) moping about teenage angst, long lost loves, sex in cars, you get the point. bands like jimmy eat world just refuse to evolve or mature, and that’s why it’s really hard to take them seriously or view them as sincere at all. well, that’s my justification on why “indie” bands duly deserve the praise they are getting

the AC’s really remind me of Modest Mouse and Bright Eyes and the Walkmen, among others. I’m not saying they sound like each other (I’m not deaf) but they have some similarities and it just feels like they’re coming out of the same vein sometimes.

dunno, i could sort of see the connection to modest mouse… but modest mouse encompasses a wide, wide range of music. please, please don’t compare bright eyes to the arcade fire. ugh

i don’t mean to prod on bright eyes too much, i mean, the guys an awesome lyricist. but, i just don’t like him. maybe… too melodramatic?

yeah, he’s a bit over the top sometimes, especially in his side project Desaparecidos. you’ll probably hate it but it was a good record for the post-election let down. then after that week I just couldn’t stand his voice for a while.

yes, they are overrated, and yes, pfm is as piece of pretentious, hit-or-miss ****, but I still enjoyed the CD. Maybe not the best release this year, but it’s up there.
