The "Bag A Week" Club

Cleaned out the address book drawer, which turns into a junk drawer every six months or so. Also cleaned out the mudroom and organized the shoes and purses that reside there in cubbies and on shelves. Now I’m motivated to keep going once the kids leave.

I am cleaning a cupboard too. Found a can of old raisins (dated 2002) and H said put it out for the birds. Rainy today and birds haven’t discovered it yet (nor have the squirrels). Baby steps.

Maybe even the birds won’t eat 14 year old raisins.

My dogs would. :frowning:

Forced to clean the fridge today as we woke up to a lake of water in the kitchen and all frozen foods thawed. Happy 2017.

oh, no @ChoatieMom ! I hope your fridge can be fixed.

We had a similar thing happen recently with our basement freezer. Turned out it would not be worth it to fix and with just H and me living here now it’s not worth replacing. I guess you would not have that option on your kitchen fridge though.

Thanks, @FallGirl. If it’s the compressor (both fridge and freezer are not cold), it’s under warranty, but the warranty repair person won’t show up until tomorrow and, if it’s like the last time we needed a repair on this fridge, the first guy will say they need to send out the authorized GE technician (who they won’t send the first time), and we won’t have the thing working until the end of the week. Fortunately, we have two mini fridges and two wine fridges, so we’ve parceled out among them what was worth saving and will be putting our new Instant Pot to good trial use this week. I should post on the “What have you discovered about yourself…as you age” thread that I’ve become more flexible/patient in my old age about first-world problems.

I spilled some fresh dry oatmeal and added it to the raisins. We are getting bad weather so all the smart animals are hovering in their homes. The second can of raisins was fresher, 2005 expiration date. Will see if I toss or I toss to the critters.

@ChoatieMom we had a GE refrigerator problem many years ago, repeated, so on the second go-around I hit them up for the spoiled food from both episodes and they paid.

We had a friend who had a dishwasher problem, and she replaced with new unit of the same brand - mistake. Had a less serious problem, but honestly!

I dislike my refrigerator, but it works so will keep it until we upgrade it when we list our home after retirement (if it lasts that long). It probably will. Shelf arrangement is not grand; like the new models. Sometimes areas of the refrigerator are too cold and hard to get the right temp setting to make sure celery doesn’t freeze, etc.

“The second can of raisins was fresher, 2005 expiration date.”
haha. You crack me up with the word “fresher”. I guess it’s all relative. :))

@ChoatieMom, good luck with the repair.

Insomnia hit and I’ve yet to sleep (5:30 am) and our little used guest room will have two consecutive guests in the next 10 days. The closet was stuffed so I just spent a couple hours cleaning it out. On the top shelf was a faux wood box that holds flatware. In this case, it was holding the 5 place settings of the pattern dh and I registered for when we were married 29 years ago. Never bought the rest of the set. Never used what we were given. Just sitting in the box for all those years. OUT it goes. What a waste. Two boxes ready for goodwill and much went directly into the trash can. I might be exhausted but I did accomplish something!

@collage1: I hope you’re not literally tossing the flatware but that you’re at least selling it to Replacements.

Hi! It was recommended that I join this thread as I am on a cleaning binge. waves

As of late, doing one cupboard/drawer at a time seems to be overwhelming. I have switched to one category at a time and it seems much easier for me…for example, scarves or coffee cups.

I’ve been going through paperwork clutter for the last couple of hours. I’ve filed a lot, shredded a lot, and recycled even more.

Just did something else … figured out the balances on a bunch of gift cards!

I have a drawer full of multicolored feathers that’s been there for about 3 years. So far I’m stymied about whether to vacuum them out, put them all in a ziplock bag and stick them in the craft room, or continue to ignore them. Every time I open the drawer one or two float out…

I’m so ruthless with clutter, I don’t know why this drawer continues to escape my minimalist Monica Geller-level organization obsession…

Cleaning out a cabinet and finding (and recycling!) old design magazines from 1998, older than @SOSConcern’s raisins. Yikes!

lolol!

I’ve already relocated the bulky things to a shelf in the garage. And I found some stuff that has been intended for Goodwill as well as some stuff that I’m not sure is, but, oh, well, it’s going!

Tackled some neglected drawers, tossed a bunch of expired/meaningless stuff. Next up, financial litter.

You people who are at home decluttering during the day and posting on here (assumed) are making me jealous at work! I want to be home decluttering!
