The "Bag A Week" Club

You betcha!

(Mr. B called that activity “spring mushroom picking.” )

@VeryHappy Do you have a pooper scooper? Even with 2 layers of gloves I’d be like :-&.

No pooper scooper. I won’t go into the gory details, but the hands (with gloves) are really necessary. Some of the poop is – aged.

You need to buy a pooper scooper, my friend.

Taking stuff today to donate to a large local rummage sale.

Spent the past month purging and organizing the home office and file cabinet. It really wasn’t a huge, huge project but so ghastly boring that I had to break it up into small increments. My files have never been so organized and it made tax time easier than normal. Downside was all that work only yield 2 bags of trash .

When it comes to files and records, I find the task onerous because it’s always a struggle deciding what to keep because I might need it at some point and what to toss.

Keeping my fingers crossed that kid finds an unfurnished place to live!!! That will take care of a lot of bags!

BB–good luck with that–my kids didn’t want anything I saved.

My kids didn’t either. They didn’t even take all their own stuff. Not saving for child #3.

Our kiddo became pretty frugal after living abroad, so no way on the planet she would spend her own money on something that she can have for free. She was excited that she could take her bed and other stuff.

BB–yeah, the bed–do you still need one in that room so you get to buy another?
My kid suddenly became a minimalist (not a real one but more than me) after moving. From messy room saving everything kid to “I don’t want to mess up MY place.” Ugh.
Hoping the second will take a few more things but not counting on it so much.
BUT–I’m still in toss mode so all is good.

Dos–I did better with my office re-haul–a full bag of trash. And I’m finally able to find stuff!

Nope! No bed needed. We are selling the house, and any extra rooms in the new place will not have anything in them. The kid is moving 25-30 miles away.

My local Sherwin Williams paint store just told me they will recycle paint cans even if they are from another store. Don’t know if this is a service just offered in my state because of recycling laws or nationwide. Check it out! I cannot wait to clear out a dozen or so cans.

Both my kids live hundreds of miles away so I can’t give them anything larger than a can opener. And even then, I have to be careful that it’s something they can carry on the plane. Bummer.

So my “bag a week” this week involved a koi fish who was outgrowing his 75 gallon tank. D18 and I scooped him up (he was NOT happy with us) and snuck him over in a giant water-filled gallon ziplock bag to the neighborhood koi pond and dumped him in.

He spent a few minutes going “what on earth!” and then started swimming around happily with all his new koi friends in his new gazillion gallon tank :). We had wanted to wait until our indoor (unheated) tank was about the same temp as the outside pond, but when his friend the oranda goldfish went belly up this morning we decided today was the day. Luckily we’ve had a few warm days so the temp difference was minimal.

My to-do list for next month is to break down and sell/freecycle the 75 gallon tank and stand. I’m really ready to be done with fishkeeping. I can’t even think about the 250 gallon monster that is my husband’s marine tank in the basement-it’s been empty of fish for four years @-) . Maybe when he sees mine gone he’ll be inspired…

If my area Facebook yard sale page is any indication, there is good traffic in fish tanks.

OK and WOW
So where is everyone???

H and I talked about some decor on a wall in the family room. He was so OK
with never in this lifetime changing anything.
So a few night ago I took every single thing off of the wall and the shelves.
H had a fit about these masks from Bali that we bought 24 years ago and you can now buy at Target.
We do have stories as one was made by our drivers great-grandfather when he was 94.
But now --who cares.

I filled a big bag with the majority of the stuff–but not the masks.
I know that many of the items are things he bought in Africa in the 70’s and have
never even suggested he let go of…
I asked him to go through the bag and he said he did not have any idea where any
of those items came from…!!!

As I have always suspected. I do know those items belong to him.
I also know that he has sentimental attachments to an idea but would never even
remember the item. (and he is really mentally sharp).

So, @oregon101: What’s going to happen to those items?

We sold our 25 year old van over the weekend and the buyers also took 2 old bicycles we had in the backyard and one of our multiple bbq’s and when I say “take,” I mean they paid actual money, though not very much, for them. We almost got rid of the boat but apparently, it’s no longer seaworthy. It can be broken down and sold for the parts so that will be a task for the summer.

I also brought up a huge pile of pants (I have 4 sons) that none of them wear or fit into anymore. I offered every one who came into the house the chance to look through the pile and take what they wanted and the rest I donated to a clothing drive.

I even gave D a huge bottle of aspirin, which H can’t take any longer so I wanted to get them out of the house.

I am praying that D will accede to my desire to sell this megalith of a house and downsize but he says he wants to die here. I want to have some money for a life in retirement.

Cleaned out my linen closet this morning - I am not putting back the china/crystal which just sits in there (were gifts and never used) - I am going to sell them (well have my fiend who has an online store sell them)! Also making a pile of H’s clothes that he no longer wears/fits to give away (these I usually put in the local collection bins)
