The "Bag A Week" Club

I though had to wear my RBJ robe today, but Mr. took a look at the …stuff… he has been keeping in the garage for all these years, and said. “To the dump it goes!” Why did we (ahem) keep a box with random pieces of drain pipes from landscaping projects in our first house? Why?

Now that kids are back to school I need to be more dedicated to cleaning up. Doing this one room at a time.
Today washed all the bathroom curtains and rugs and replaced the liners. Tomorrow wash all the sheets and start removing things off counters. Starting my version of fall cleaning. (avoiding shopping malls) Going through paperwork and putting it into my files. Making sure to keep all the important papers together.

Have a bunch of dvds that I don’t know where to donate. (library? )
What can I do with leftover paint from about 10 years ago?

Latex paint? Open the cans and let it dry. Then it can go into the trash.

OMG. Why do we have a box or rewritable CDs labeled “damaged disks”? In the trash!!!

Moved D2 back into the dorm today, so bag a week starts up again tomorrow! Too bad H won’t join in…

DH is merging his business with another one and has to clear out everything from his business (none of it is going to new location). Some stuff will be sold and donated. I’m concerned about all the stuff he’ll choose to bring home. He knows I don’t want it, but to him if it only takes up a small box, it’s no big deal. The problem is there will be lots of small boxes. I’m not looking forward to this. He’s more sentimental than I am and can’t bear to part with things.

Cleaned up tw kitchen cabinets today and organized all my spices. I actually have an empty cabinet now. I wonder how long that lasts. Thinking of selling some kitchen items that I have to create more space. Have to figure out pricing and where to sell the items.

.42 ton of crap dumped at the transfer station this morning. Mr. says he will never ever save another leftover piece of lumber or pipe!

This is not funny. Another .46 ton (!) taken to the dump. Holy… We are officially done with dump runs.

Do they weigh your stuff at the dump, @BunsenBurner? Where were you storing all this crap?!

Oh yes they do! We live in the boonies. Mr. had a shed where he kept all of that leftover lumber and metal junk - we built a fence, a patio, a deck, a retaining wall… some drainage… lots of construction projects. Then there was that metal gazebo that caved in under the weight of the 3-ft snowfall the other year… and lots of other “valuables.”

Our transfer station doesn’t weigh. You just dump.

So, now you can turn that shed into a she shed.

Are you in one of those states where it is paid by your property tax? Here, we pay for garbage and dumping at the transfer station. But our property tax is not that bad!

Yup. Part of property tax. No household pickup though. You haul it yourself or pay a private company to haul it for you.

We pay our city for garbage, recycling and water (very dearly for water). Our property taxes are still staggering.

The fact that the transfer station weighs the loads is very eye opening and makes folks like Mr. to think twice about keeping “treasures.” Mr. B was gobsmacked that the crap weighed that much.

Well, when they put it as a fraction of a ton, it sounds huge.

It IS huge! Just shy of 1,000 pounds!

I think I will have those transfer station receipts framed and displayed in our garage as a reminder - crap sucks.

Isn’t that creating more crap?

Nope. That’s functional decor.
