We made some serious progress this week! Mr. B proudly parked his new toy in the garage today. Now… we need to clean out the second bay for the old faithful. Glad I don’t have to park my Metro bus anywhere!!!
@bunsenburner Thanks, and no, not yet, but some possible options. Houses are selling insanely fast based on our county/state history. There’s also very little inventory. It’s nuts and it’s not going to last here.
Planning to sit it out for awhile in a rental. Have to find one though
and turn my motivation into “Dumpster a Week”.
We had lots of Pokeman cards and beanie babies but they are all long gone. I am on the side of getting rid of stuff rather than keeping it it case it becomes valuable. YMMV.
S2 wanted all his Magic and Pokemon cards. I was more than happy to give them to him. They are now his problem.
You are doing others a favor if you throw away collectibles, because you increase the scarcity. Mine are more valuable if you throw yours out. Not that a Pokémon card has ever entered my house.
Last chance for me to clear stuff out before Thanksgiving visitors arrive. I hope DH doesn’t peek in the trash. The bin is pretty full this week, which brings me joy.
One 18 yr old double Dacor oven is headed for the junkyard tomorrow!
The insides of the upper oven were rusty. It is a good thing we are getting rid of it.
Last night I emptied my kitchen drawers, wiped them out to get rid of crumbs, and when I put things back, I tossed a few items that I don’t ever recall using. Ever.
Cleaned my sewing room while DH was out of town. Tossed a couple big garbage bags of donated 80s drapery fabric that will NEVER be in style again, put some stuff in piles to donate to another quilt guild and some linens to our vet. Pulled three boxes of pictures and negatives out of that room and they are waiting for me to sort through them. Need a scanner to get them into digital format.
Did the summer-winter clothing switch and in process got rid of the items I have not worn in more than a couple of years. I have two bags to go out
I keep trying to encourage DH to get rid of sweaters that he hasn’t worn in > 20 years and that are a size too small for him, and he just tells me they’re not hurting anyone where they are.
^If it’s any consolation, my in-laws did the same thing - saved their too small clothes from decades ago - and now in their 80s, have shrunk and fit in many of those old clothes again. Of course now they won’t part with their too big clothes for the same reason. Their basement is absolutely loaded with clothes.
Very Happy, I’m laughing at the comment from your husband that it’s not hurting anyone. I get that from mine all of the time and it makes me insane. His response to so many things is it’s not hurting anyone, it’s not hurting you. AHHHH. Maybe not physical pain but sometimes just looking at these things for years is emotional distress.
An old vacuum cleaner left the house Friday. I warned DH it would happen, not sure he’s noticed it yet. Peace will break out in the Middle East before DH gets around to fixing an old appliance, we have a new one, and most importantly it was sitting between the stairs and the refrigerator in the basement and I’m not going to have that getting in the way over Thanksgiving weekend. So it’s gone, yay. And the wicker basket of things to donate to the church rummage sale is filling up nicely.
Yesterday I cleared out the big box of stuff my mom kept here for when she visited. Plus, I filled two big bags with stuff I haven’t worn In quite some time. That inspired my husband to get rid of a bunch of stuff.
Best part of all is he took it all to goodwill yesterday, BEFORE we could change our minds and pull stuff back.
My house closed today! Now the “dumpster a week” commences in earnest
Congrats! Are you renting back from the buyers? Here, buyers demand possession upon closing. Unless there is a rentback agreement, the house must be cleared of everything by closing. We cleared everything out, but I strategically left the “plushies” and a couple of very large rugs behind. Mr. fessed up that he left his old motorized DR cart in the bushes in the back corner of the yard.
@VeryHappy -Surprise H by taking ALL of his sweaters out of the closet and drawers and lay them out on the living room floor, on top of couch, over dining room chairs, etc. It is amazing how large the “collection” appears when in a new environment. Don’t forget to take a picture.
We dropped 6 bags at Goodwill yesterday, and two boxes of not-clothing
Project of the weekend: rip out the ugly garage workbench cabinetry and make a dump run! Then patch the drywall (ugh!) and put nice metal wall cabinets up on the wall.
I was in my basement and realized there was an area I haven’t cleaned out yet - the work bench. Will attack that after the holidays - know there is lots to throw out (old parts to stuff we no longer own!)
