Yay me! I filled four cartons with my grandmother’s Limoges china. It looks like eight million other patterns of Limoges china, every single piece has a chip or crack in it, and I haven’t used it in about 15 years. All cartons are in my car and I’ll drop them off at Goodwill tomorrow morning.
Absolutely no guilt.
I’m also giving Goodwill the serving bowls that sort of match the Limoges. Crate and Barrel has some nice-looking ones that are so much more 21st century!
Got rid of a box of glassware we’d brought over a couple years ago from late MIL’s to eventually sort through. Today was the day! I’d had it bubble wrapped in the first place, bagged up the sets, and sent it out the door. Husband also hauled out a couple of small bins of I-don’t-care-what. Goodwill run tomorrow.
I donated 4 bags of games and clothes yesterday. My current project is going through more boxes from my parents’ house. I’ve taken pictures of everything that belonged to my dad that I want a physical memory of, and will send that box off to my sister.
Going through my mom’s memory boxes now. It’s sad when they don’t remember any of the people in their years and years of photos.
TAH DAH! I read here for inspiration, but rarely comment. But TODAY I finished sorting, scanning (what little is of interest) and tossing the very last box of ephemera I brought back from Mom’s house that we emptied almost 6 years ago. She moved into Grandma’s house and they both kept a lot of stuff. Gems in this box were grandad’s 1959 tax returns … But also a picture of HER dad from way back (pre 1898!) and two handwritten stories from her childhood. That is why you had to look at every piece of paper because there was always something to find.
Just sayin’ our scanner is worth its weight in gold. I can scan and let go of sooooo muuuuucccchhhh paper. If I can scan it and email it then I don’t feel like I cheated a cousin by not sharing! It is shared… and gone!
Thanks to the person who mentioned Buffalo Exchange, I took a stuffed bag to my UPS Store yesterday morning. Enjoying my new cubic feet, and fingers crossed for a little bit of cash which is just icing on the cake!
^^That was me because D23 suggested it. I sent bags in under each of my daughter’s names. One D got $30 and the other two zero. It was fine because I would have just taken the items to GW so anything was a bonus. Good luck!
We took my husband’s good quality leather jackets to Buffalo Exchange. We were chuckling happily imagining what we can do with the money we get.
Noooo, they didn’t take any because the style of the jackets were old and not popular with their customers. Very disappointing and honestly a bit embarrassed!
Husband just took 4 substantial boxes of books to our local library. I’d hoped to do something “better” with them (lots of kids books - I thought maybe I’d take them to a low income school or something… but that didn’t happen, so when he volunteered to take them, off they went). Lots of hardback bestsellers too, but we don’t want to carry them around as we move. My husband does still have his notes from college - just in case he ever decides to teach…)
We are painting the entire house soon, and I’m hopeful that will give us a little nudge to get more junk out of the house. Also - with the virus and people not congregating so much, another excuse to stay home and clean.
Organized my Tupperware, plastic container cabinet. Two bags of lids that had no bottoms. I moved the extra lids into my laundry room but I really need to just toss them. I have another half day today without my husband home so I’m hoping to get a bit more cleaning out done.
Not throwing out, but I’m about to reorganize. I’m going to move my baking pans to the basement instead of letting them take valuable real estate in the kitchen. I use them each maybe – maybe!! – once a year.
I went through my closet Saturday and pulled out everything that I no longer wear or that doesn’t make me at least a little happy (forget joy - I’m aiming for satisfaction). 4 large, stuffed to the gills bags were delivered to Goodwill Sunday! Now I’m organizing the remaining clothes and switching out to better hangers. I can see what I own and it looks so much better! DD says I need to seriously address my addiction to buying jeans and black slacks. She may be right…
I will likely be at home next week, and I’m really hoping to start sorting through things in my kid’s rooms, instead of just putting it all back where it was after painting.
I don’t know how I’ll deal with the piles until we can unload them. My “boys” both have second degree black belts in martial arts, and have lots of trophy’s to prove it. I asked and one said he only wanted his belt, and other said nothing. Then one said he might want the 6 foot trophy. I am going to keep the ones they got for their black belts and dump or donate the rest.
Someone feel free to “nag” me next week about how I’m doing.
I have one shipment pending at Buffalo Exchange and think I’ll ask for another bag soon; they had to close their stores but website says they’re still taking things through mail.
I was just thinking about this. I am hoping all this staying at home will be a good opportunity to get some more decluttering done but I don’t think it will be as easy to find good homes for objects right now. I need to label give away boxes really well with what’s inside and where they are going, so that I don’t end up sorting them again, and then I will have to keep them in one corner downstairs, instead of getting the satisfaction of taking things out immediately. Oh well.
I did organize the main pantry cupboard and I feel good about that.
We have several more boxes of good books to get rid of, but I told my husband not to just drop them off at the library while they are closed. I don’t want them to get mildewed or ruined before the library can deal with them.
I hope we don’t regret getting rid of almost all of our books at some point.
When we moved, I couldn’t get DH to part with any of his books. We still have some of his college textbooks (he’s 69 years old!) and lots of books he read in the 1970s. So now, since the libraries are closed, I perused our home library – and could barely find anything I want to read. The Illiad? No thanks. Ulysses? No thanks. Poems by T.S. Eliot? No thanks. It’s really slim pickings, in spite of the fact that there are three bookshelves filled with books!
