Just created two bags of garbage by going through a bunch of tubs of all the fast food toys from when my daughter was little. Some are brilliant (those we saved) and some are hideous (those we chucked).
Very nice! Wow⊠100 families is a lot, should be some good declutter in our town. Win/Win.
This week our church partnered with another local Presbyterian church to help a large Afghan family being resettled in the area. I mentioned it to a friend at our Friday beer outing, and she offered up some sheets and towels (which Iâm not yet sure is needed) from her motherâs estate. I think there are so many people that have a heart for doing donations where there feel there is a tangible need.
I think itâs easier to get rid of stuff when you know itâs going to go to someone/a family that is truly in need.
I am nowhere nearly as inspired as you guys. I chuckle at this long, long, long thread as I picture people in empty houses, nothing left to bag up. LOL.
Ha⊠youâd be surprised at how much stuff is still at my house! Iâm not a hoarder, just sentimental and indecisive.
A lot of it does come from clearing out my motherâs apartment (plus the family items she had stored here), even though ARC got many carloads of it last. Also LOTS of other stuff of our own. Over time it is all getting better organized, with less dense closets. If we ever downsize, there will have to be much more purging. But hopefully that task will be easier due to the consolidation of like items together.
I am looking to donate my daughterâs communion dress and veil - hoping to find a local place I can bring it to. Anybody done this?
@kiddie The director of Religious Education at my church loved to have extra dresses to offer to families who couldnât afford to go out and buy a dress that would only be worn once. Maybe call a couple of area churches?
Looks like I can donate to the local Catholic Charities.
even better my local parish will take it,
Trying to be more resourceful. I plan on using my leftover holiday cards this year. I typically have a few leftover each year and have been saving them forever. Going to use them this year (in addition to the ones I purchased - I just purchased fewer).
I have MANY leftover cards from years gone by. I started using some within the last couple of years, and now Iâm worried Iâll send the same âoldâ one to the same person again.
My husband is looking into selling his old video game systems and games. They are just sitting in boxes and never get used.
Well, they didnât want his old video game system - said they have tons of them already to get rid off. I did find a consignment place that said they would look at my old fox jacket and try and sell it. Hopefully, that works out.
I have MANY games and âsystemsâ all the way back to the Game Boy Color. I have asked the kids many times to come see if they want anything. They mostly ignore me, but of course I will be too blame for getting rid of âthat one gameâ that was worth a lot of money.
Thereâs a box of games on CDs here. Iâm about ready to toss, but should probably ask the guys if they want them. Most run in Windows 98, so I donât know if theyâre even functional now.
Old themed t-shirts. I took pictures of the fronts (and backs if there were names) and made a collage of them. Easier to keep the memories than making a quilt! Tossed the shirts.
I just made a pile of old luggage (mostly duffels we got for free) and sleeping bag to go out with the next garbage. Also, posted on facebook to sell new in box microwave we bought and never used.
so exciting got a buyer on the microwave moments after posting it (hopefully he shows up to get it as promised)
I saw a FB idea about donating luggage to local foster care groups, since foster children often have to move in garbage bags. But not sure how youâd find a local group.
Colorado mom, we did this. At our city bookclub, we read a book about a foster child. Two women run a group where they help with books and clothes, take kids to visit colleges, etc. so, we asked our members (250) to donate luggage. This way, the kids wouldnât have to throw all their belongings into a garbage bag.
I forgot to mention that we try to have guests join us. When we read 19 wives, we had 3 women from that sect join us. I especially like when we have an author there, on FT
