My daughter was here, first time since Christmas 2020. She went through her childhood books. I have 3 bags now for the big green book donation bin.
Donated a bag of clothes and a box of books.
Rereading Judith Kolbergās book, Conquering Chronic Disorganization, before rearranging a room of mementos, photos, books, craft and stationery supplies. Have some unfinished projects & have to decide whether to catch up or let go. Would like to repurpose the room for gatherings.
I usually watch a couple episodes of āHoardersā and then go to town. Works for me!
That will do!
I had a couple of RE listings pinned⦠they worked magic as motivational tools! One look was enough to get my butt off the chair to start cleaning out junk.
Yes, that Hoarders show scares me.
I have been gifted things, or inherited things, or still holding things for kiddos, sibling, etc. This room has turned into a dumping/sorting area for seasonal and āto be decidedā items.
I like this suggestion, to have a positve vision of the space, find a new look.
We have a few things here which D and SIL were storing during their recent move. I put a table she didnāt need/want on BN this morning and so far 10 people are interested.
Thatās great. When there are multiple potential takers, it encourages timely pickup. And⦠there are backups if needed.
@Colorado_mom funny you should mention backups. My first randomly selected person didnāt contact me in 2 days so I chose another person who picked up the table this morning. Meanwhile I also gifted a coffee table I loved but have no room for in my house.
Dang, wish I was your neighbor Iām thinking you have great give always!!
The coffee table was from Ballard designs, it is still being sold
I loved the look of the table but finally had to admit we have no room for it in this house and it isnāt Dās style (she is a midcentury modern person).
I have given away some great stuff.
Going to do a, āpass,ā through our condo today.
Trying to decide if I should ditch the Blackās Law Dictionary, Elements of Style, and a few (very few) other reference books. Is there any reason to keep them?
When was the last time your household used them?
I think I got rid of my Elements of Style. Still hanging on to my motherās old dictionary, with the thumb index letter dividers. Donāt use it (or any printed dictionary - several have been given away). But sometimes it is about sentimental attachment.
I had pretty quick pickup for this on NextDoor (free item)⦠with two backups. That was nice because I though there might be no takers.
I have been holding onto it from my deceased motherās stuff for three years, after having last year parted with a wicker 2 drawer rolling filing cabinet and a plastic 2 drawer rolling cabinet. I think she had maybe already emptied two of them herself. Was just on the fence which if any to keep.
Now I still have the three brown wooden 2-drawer filing cabinets from her apartment that are in the background. She bought them unfinished (Yankee catalog?) and finished them herself. Iāve culled out some of the files, but lots more work to go. Hoping that someday another relative or maybe me will take an interest in the ancestry research drawer.
Lol - forever ago. I honestly couldnāt say
If your Elements of Style is a 3rd or 4th edition pass it on to a high school student. Otherwise recycle it.
Well, it was slower going than I expected, so I didnāt get to the office where the books are.
We went through all of the kitchen, dining, and bar areas. Got rid of a few things and threw out some others. Reorganized a bit, so everything is tidier. I also had four pair of shoes I had not gotten rid of. Also weeded out some towels. Best thing was cleaning out the junk drawer. Mostly, I needed dh to help me go through those aforementioned spaces and help me haul giveaways to Goodwill. Other spaces I can do on my own. My photos and sheet music need attention, but at least they are contained and organized. Those are in the office as well. For another day.
We are pretty minimalist in general. My main goal is to never burden my kid with too much stuff. He recently had a birthday, and Iām thinking doing an annual pass/sweep near his birthday is probably a good idea.
Thatās is always a good thing.
I have my Elements of Style. Tangible proof of a time before digital education.
