The "Bag A Week" Club

You could do the hold on to one or two and chuck the rest method. I kept one china cup and saucer from my mother-in-law’s set and got rid of the rest. I could see doing the same for linens.

My sister is doing that with items from my dad’s house and making shadow boxes for grandparents, Mom, etc. Old jewelry, handkerchiefs, gloves, purses, buttons, smashed china, handwritten envelopes, etc.

Yesterday I tossed a big bag of stuff from one of the kids’s rooms, and I packed up a large bag for donation.

I only got reid ofa few things in this closet by the front door. (In fact I added a new jacket). The big deal was doing re-org. The floor used to be a jumbled mess of dining room table-leaf bags (now stuffed way up high), oak kitchen table-leaves (rarely used; now acting as shelves at floor), strongbox etc. With the re-org, I’ll have room for shoes and boots and other stuff.

AFTER photos (no Before, but trust me it was ugly)

The white plastic riser shelf had sticky residue on top and was ready for trash/recycle. But I found a piece of bubble wrap to cover it.

Did something similar - cleaned out/reorganized the closet in the room I use for my workouts. Moved a few things to another location, straightened up and broke down a bunch of small boxes I was saving (why?) and put in recycle. Threw a few things away. It feels good.

We finally got our deck rebuilt! Which means I have been culling deck crap that we took down. I don’t want any ugly crap back on my beautiful new deck! Off into the trash went the semi-broken planters and non-functional side tables!

That’s the “if you give a mouse a cookie” problem. Now you’ll buy new deck furniture, and then you’ll have to do some landscaping in the back, and then you’ll have to do some the front, and then you’ll need a new front porch . . . .

I hear ya! Luckily, we are not getting anything new, just keeping the awesome metal firetable set and a few planters. There is no landscaping to be done! Our backyard is a ravine, so the deck is our real backyard so to speak and my garden space!

ooh, pix? We also live on a cliff and have a big deck.

Still tickled over the closet reorg posted a few days ago. It’s true that only a few items made it to give-away pile (or trash). Plus there was space made from a jug of sidewalk salt moved to the other closet (on top of the other jug we had - oops). But so much more room!

In addition to prior closet contents I’ve added;

  • six pair of shoes/boots plus some hiking socks and inner soles etc… now can get rid of the laundry basket of footwear in the downstairs shower
  • my small gardening tote (with tools and gloves) and hat/sunglasses that typically stay by the back or front door all summer
  • a basket of gloves, combined from pairs other closet and other places
  • clear shoe box with decorations that were in the other closet
  • another tablecloth
  • TBD, since there is still more space left

I relate to your reorganization delight! Now go write down where you “re-stashed” your stuff before you forget. (I know of which I speak…

Minor declutter here, but the reorg (started with closet project mentioned above) is what really energizes me.

For a few years, I’ve had an open basket on a bench in downstairs hallway to hold stuff used when I go running. This week I switched to using an old picnic basket, purchased years ago from a thrift shop. Just a bit tidier… and I’m loving it.

We’ve been collecting bags for donating in the basement. It was quite a pile.
Just dropped them off - I should have counted but I’m guessing 12-15 kitchen trash can sized bags.

What kind of bags and who took them?

Ah - I get your question now… I wasn’t clear in my description above.
Plastic bags, mostly full of clothes (Not just bags).
Husband said I had to go with him to drop them off, bc at one of the Goodwills near us it’s a little complicated. But where we went today we just had to hand the stuff to a guy at a door. It was easy.

H cleaned out his sock drawer and I put the ones he is getting rid of in my Ridwell “threads” bag.

Small wins!

I dust with socks. Just put it on my hand and wander around. Turn it inside out when one side is dirty.
