Whoo hooo, some long-procrastinated tasks done: a load to the dump, discarded old and incomplete jigsaw puzzles, a load of nursery pots to Home Depot, and a big bag of ignored dog toys to the local shelter. Slowly, slowly, we are decluttering.
Inch by inch, row by rowā¦
(The other trick of course is to not bring too much new stuff into the house. Life is more complicated now that I consider more than just price tag. There is clutter factor, āgreenā considerations etc)
Iām sorry for your loss
Same here, @FallGirl. I didnāt know about your loss, but I want to acknowledge it and add my condolences, too, even in virtual space.
Iām glad youāre here.
The messiest room in my house is currently the office. I have decided to tackle it a bit at a time. Itās a rainy day today so I cleared out some files and shredded some old stuff that I no longer need.
12 bags of clothing and shoes out of two of the kidsā rooms! Dropped 7 bags off yesterday and will drop the remaining 5 bags off today.
Thinking about getting rid of at least one of the big dressers in one kidās room. Deciding on whether to contact a charity or try to freecycle it.
Not sure I can put link here. But if you need a laugh, google for a fun video -
Holderness dumpster
OMG, I just watched it. Perfect!!
We had a dumpster here until a few days ago ā we had our old wooden deck torn up and replaced with the Trex-type stuff. (Fiberon, Home Depotās brand.) Best thing about the dumpster was getting rid of the old kitchen cabinets in the basement that have been there since we renovated the kitchen 13 years ago ā you know, the cabinets that DH swore heād put up in the basement and use to store stuff.
Yeah, those cabinets.
Itās quadruple trash week here - trash, compost, recycle and large item pick up.
You know it will rain wednesday night!
Dropped off 5 more bags of clothing ( 2 were mine) today.
I have a few things out on Buy Nothing and will be putting a few more things out today. I have and use a crockpot so I do not need another one ( barely used). Donāt get me started on the Instapot.
A big one: we gave away our old truck to our younger friends! Woohoo! They were super excited.
Proud to say I hauled the patio chairs that are ripping and no longer safe to the curb, my brother hauled the toilet that has been in the garage for 13 years ābecause someone could use itā (really Mom, saving a toilet!), and 4 cases of rule books for boysā lacrosse from 2011 or earlier to the curb for Big Item Pickup.
Only one small trip to the thrift store this week but since I now have a path thru the garage I can probably make a few more trips.
Next Big Item Pickup isnāt until the end of August. Hope to be ready for another unloading by then.
Weāve been clearing some broken chairs and old mattresses this month. Thankful for bulk pick up options.
Amazing how a lifetime of items can filll a garage or basement for so many reasonsā¦āthat would be a fun projectāā¦.
ājust in case company comesāā¦
ā good to have a spareāā¦
ākids could use it somedayā⦠etc
Inherited a collection of homemade vhs tapes. Will be looking into digitizing a few.
In addition to the clothing I donated this week, I have gotten rid of/am getting rid of two small tables, a bunch of plastic hangers, a crockpot and an Instant Pot on Buy Nothing.
And I sold my late husbandās car today⦠I admit that made me sad but I only need one car.
My next area to concentrate on is old electronics. We have a city sponsored program where you can take them, some with a fee (tvās, monitors) some without (laptops, phones, and I hope a lot more). They even have a coupon to get one TV free. I have at least 4 laptops, 6 phones, a bunch of routers and modems, enough cable cords to rewire Tokyo, power packs that no longer charge, tablets, and cords cords and more cords. I really want to get rid of these dinosaurs.
Also on the list:
Rusty tools
Christmas decorations
Double, triple, quadruple kitchen things like cookie sheets, measuring cups, cookbooks
I donāt even want to talk electronics. āBob the computerā is still in a box in my garage from forever ago.
We almost⦠almost got rid of the old PC we kept in the basement. Then my husband had a ārevelationā: if the PC controlling the ancient piece of equipment he has in his lab dies, he can replace that PC with ours⦠Sigh. So he keeps the stupid machine ājust in case.ā But he did dispose of a few mice and keyboards, so there is that.
Iām trying to have no mercy for the electronics. Those headphones with the big plug I used to use at work? The old desk top (with keyboard and mouse)? The lap top that canāt be turned on because we donāt have a power cord for it (never returned from the repair store)? OUT.
I still have my OLD computers, running OLD programs - but I also still use them! Some of my professional programs and peripherals can no longer be installed on new computers. I donāt need the new programs (for $$$$), since Iām no longer working - but I still want occasional access to some of the older work or devices. Very frustrating.
Weāll all be happy to send you old computers!
