The "Bag A Week" Club

Kicking myself that I let some of those go. Truth is most were quality and made to be compact that just doesn’t happen today.

I don’t know the actual count but we have A LOT of them. They were one of the main play items in our house for year and years. My H would take the kids to garage sales (he looking for antique furniture to refinish, they looking for FP toys, lol) so we have many many sets and MANY many little people, lol. I know they became sort of a choking hazard because they should not be for kids under 3 but don’t know that they had that guidance on them originally.

Our son’s childhood library occupies two shelves of the library in our AZ house, and his train table (that my dad made) and Thomas the Tank Engine stuff are stored in our attic. His baby/toddler stuff occupies two small plastic bins in our closet. I will not part with any of that unless he asks for it. Everything else he valued from his childhood is in his possession. The rest was garage-saled when we moved out of the house he was raised in. The Army moved all his furniture/clothes to his first duty post. Besides the books, there is no visible trace of him in our house.

My son says he doesn’t want anything. I’m still unable to part with all the Star Wars figures that are still unopened.

Unopened star wars figures, if they are from the first collection that was ever released (1978?), could be worth something!

For the little toys, not the big stuff like the American Girl Dolls, my husband and I went through them all and saved what we liked the best. We could not part with some of it. Stuff like a really clever back to the future toy from a fast food kids meal. We whittled it down to one rubbermaid bin (started with about 6 rubbermaid bins - so this was a significant weeding).

We never downsized so I have plenty of closet space. I didn’t save everything but the grandkids love going into the closet where I keep the toys. For years we tried to get someone to take the air hockey table. It never happened and now the toddler grands like to play.
I would like my daughters to clean out their closets and get rid of clothes. At this rate my three year old granddaughter might want them as vintage one day.

Most of the old toys have been donated over the years, but I think I still have that plastic tub with little kid’s Barbies somewhere… she took the old Lion King blanket recently so now her daughter sleeps under it!

I shredded two boxes of old paperwork during lunch today. Two down, six more to go. I could have taken the whole thing to a shredding service but I decided that I can deal with it on my own.

I’m not sure what got into me but I’m doing spring clean out in late August. I brought a carload of stuff to the thrift store this week. I’m hoping to have another load for next week. I went through the bathroom cabinets and showers in the rest of my house. Tossed empty or old bottles of shampoo and other beauty products my daughter left here years ago. I also went through the dresser drawers and have several bags of clothes I know they won’t ever wear again. Also went through the old snow/ski drawers and have some stuff to donate. I also tossed things that had elastic that was no longer elastic. Today I cleaned out my bra and underwear and sock drawers.

Our neighborhood is having a garage sale day on the 19th and the BN group is encouraging free sales and publishing a map for that. I plan to participate and already have 2 boxes of random” stuff “ to put out.

When you finish at your house maybe you can come to mine :).

I am gobsmacked.

DH has been bitten by the bug. He’s upstairs with big garbage bags and is throwing out masks for the CPAP machine that he hasn’t used in five years. He’s also thrown out some T-shirts and some art materials that he doesn’t use anymore.

I’m thrilled, but I don’t want to make any sudden moves or say anything that will spook him!!

A new blog has popped up on my FB called “Millennium Inheritance”. It is a comedian who gets his material from people who inherited crap like the QVC jewelry collection, Franklin Mint dishes, Longaberger baskets, and of course Hummels. I find it funny - probably because it is so so true. And I do have Hummels waiting to be thinned to a reasonable number (which, to me, is 3).

I have seen that. But I found my longaberger baskets are very desirable on BN. I also had some Lladro pieces ( from MIL) that went quickly.

My CC name comes from the fact that I used to be an avid Longaberger collector. I still have a couple but got rid of most of them - largely through my H selling them on eBay - the look just wasn’t MY look anymore. Interesting to note is that he (my H) is seeing an increase in the interest and the prices he is getting for Longaberger on eBay. A lot of the 80’s/90’s items are being popular again because the 80’s/90’s kids are now adults and looking to recreate some of that childhood vibe in their home again (not my kids, but apparently SOMEONE is buying that stuff!)

Dropped four more bags at the donation center. I’ve no excuse now that the donation center is in a spot I drive by multiple times a day. You just drive up and open your car and they remove the items.

Sadly, the donations center we’ve been using has closed. Need to find a new place that is not outrageously far away.

Before this spot opened I would have the bags in my house for months or sitting in the back of my car.

My dad gave my sisters and me the Hummels my mom colllected. The ones I got are Christmas plates. (I’m Jewish – my parents and sibs are not.) Need to see if they are still in the basement. If not – I think I’m ready to pass them on.

I spent a few hours yesterday and today cleaning out “ stuff” I have been saving in a cedar chest that was my grandmother’s.

I shedded some stuff, recycled some and threw some away. It was about three bags full. I parted with a bunch of birthday cards from my kids, school reports, preschool artwork. I had a few laughs, shed a few tears, enjoyed the memories. But I don’t need to keep all this stuff. My kids won’t care.

I do want to ask the group here, what do you do with all of the duplicate photos? I have packs of school pictures, team photos, etc. I want to keep one of each, but I don’t need alL of these duplicates.
