The "Bag A Week" Club

Right, @VeryHappy, me, too! And since I was cleaning today, I would have thrown the lone earring out today had I not found it’s partner!

Bags of this and that, a lamp, all to be picked up Friday by Vietnam Vets. Love them!

2 more bags out today of sweaters and closet clean out. Also returned several items when I decided I did not like them more than what I already had so the 1 in and 1 out would not work. Not enough but a step.

I also tackled the “tupperware” cupboard this week. My recycle bin was quite full this week. I kept all the “real” tupperware for which I had both a top and a bottom. I also had purchased a new set of Rubbermaid storage containers at Sam’s Club which are sturdy and nice so I tossed all the “disposable” ones that go bad so quickly. I needed things that are sturdy in the freezer. Since the new set is all matching, several of the lids are interchangeable and they connect together so they don’t have to get lost. That makes me happy.

The day I cleaned out my “Tuppeware” drawer was a good one. I had so many Cool-whip containers and random things that I was saving for various reasons. I threw it all away and kept only the rubbermaid and tupperware things that had matching lids etc. It felt so good, and now I can find things. Who knew?

I’ve decided that I am finally replacing the carpet in our upstairs. I’ve been dreading it, but I’ve given myself a deadline and I am determined to get this done. This will require an epic cleaning, but I’ve decided that will be my project for this winter.

Replacing carpet is akin to moving, since you need to get everything out of the upstairs. It’s not for the faint of spirit.

Replacing flooring and getting new furniture is part of my motivation for the cleaning out of the STUFF. I have a ranch and the floors are different in every room. I want to put one continuous hardwood floor in the living room, hallway, kitchen and three bedrooms. To do this truly right, it would be done all at once. That means I have to be able to fit ALL my stuff on the main floor into the family room while I paint and have the floors done. Granted, I want new furniture in most of the rooms too, so I can just get rid of that as needed, but all the other stuff will need to be boxed up and put in the family room. Two of the three bedroom closets have closet systems that need to be removed to do the floors so even those have to be emptied completely!

@2016BarnardMom, where will you live while all this is happening?

Floors are our motivation too. We need to do the whole house but plan to do it in phases. The ones that flow into each other need to be done at the same time so major living room - dining room clean out coming.

My relatives lived in their home during renovations. They basically ended up remodeling a portion of the house at a time so they didn’t have to move. They renovated the living room, kitchen, great room and one bathroom all at one time that took many months. A few years later, they remodeled two huge bathrooms and made it into two bathrooms plus a powder room. They made one of the bathrooms into a kitchen and ate out a lot. I was glad it was them not me.

Is this a trend? I need new flooring too which has been part of my “throw it out now” plan. Just told H that son’s BR set was a goner when it happens. I

I donated 7 bags yesterday. I could have do ated more, but sometimes the companies don’t show up, so I didn’t want to carry more bags down to the basement.

I dropped off a large bag of clothes yesterday. I’m trying to be more ruthless in my closet.

I moved some clothes this morning from my main closet in my bedroom to my “secondary” closet in another bedroom. That might be my closet outbox; we’ll have to see. They’re clothes I wore a lot when I was working in an office. Now, I work from home, so I don’t think I’ve worn them in several years.

OK…I’m back in. I have at least four bags which will get donated on Monday. Linens we do not use, and a pile of clothes that folks don’t wear.

ETA…don’t know why this posted twice! Sorry. I only posted it once. I think!

Haha- I’d still live here during the flooring replacement. As long as I can get to the couch, I’m good  I’d probably only be out of my own bedroom for a week if it goes how I imagine.

DH tackled the tupperware/palstic container cupboard! Got rid of old disposable containers and thier lids. Lids not matching any container and a whole bag of donate cause we don’t use those kinds of containers anymore.
yay!

I have a rule - Tupperware stuff must have the matching lid on it before going in the storage cupboard - no lid, no going in the cupboard!

Yay to all tupperware warriors! Cleaning that cupboard was tough!
