Wow! That should free up some linen closet space!!
Weeding day today! The yard waste can is full.
Mr is installing the ovens, so I decided to keep him company and clean out the pantry.
FWIW, you can access Itās Deductible to see the valuations they give even if you donāt subscribe to Turbo Tax.
Cleaning out my closetā1/2 done. Will not go to sleep tonight until it is finished. But as this is my third wave it is not horrid. Just needs commitment.
Ha! While cleaning out the pantry, I discovered our picnic basket - with a bottle of wine inside, Apothic Red vintage 2011.
what a perfect reward after a long day of chores!
I forgot about the linens on the bed. Found three more cotton/poly pillowcases. All in the trash now!!
Our carpet and painting project is finally over. Talk about an incentive to clean!! Iām way ahead on my ābags a weekā which is good because I am exhausted. I think I will be getting rid of more stuff because I like the way everything looks without the clutter. I was surprised a how big our closets are once they were empty! So, the problem isnāt that we donāt have enough storage space, the problem is we have too much stuff! Who knew??? Even my husband threw away some things which was a big breakthrough.
I just dropped off my queen-sized flannel sheets to the Humane Society so the puppies and kitties can stay cozy.
Iām posting again because this thread is extremely helpful to meāand I need it! Last week, I managed to get 5/6 of the garbage out to the curb by the time the garbage truck arrived, and I counted that as a success.
Volunteers of American have a drive-by pick-up the week after next, which I am starting to prepare for.
After taking most of the winter off for travel and family I got back into it today. Very large bag of shoes, wrong size now, wrong heel hight for me now, out the door and more books to the library sale. I am ready to weed through my winter cloths but it would seem most places would want stuff that is in season. What do you think?
I just cleaned my closet (again) and took two large black garbage bags to Goodwill. Also 3 nice newish throw rugs that were not working out.
Started another one immediately.
Gave a friend a lovely top that I had on for an hour and did not like the neckline.
I think they take any season unless you mean a consignment store.
This article says it all. Time to donate more than a bag a weekā¦because my kids will never want this stuff!!
^ I saw that article and thought āI donāt even want my stuffā.
Everyone here is awesome! SO much home ācleansingā going on!!! H has started to work a WEE bit in the attic - it is definitely a problem area! I actually just brought down D1ās old prom/homecoming dresses - we are going to take a look at them and see if they are worth putting in eBay for a little cash - he has been selling this and that the last year - if not, they will get donated. Figure itās the time of year to sell them IF they are sellable!
^And if the dresses are not sellable - the local HS theater department might take them.
I took prom dresses to our local highschool. They have a program so girls who canāt really afford it will have a dress.
Please pleaseā¦call your local HS before you take anything to their theater department. I worked with our HS theater department, and every year, folks made ādonationsā of old clothes to us. To be honest, most went to Goodwill. We had no place to store these items. Plus,me also had no idea when or if they would be of any use to us.
Do look in your area for programs that collect and distribute prom gowns to those who need them. We have that in our area too, and they do a terrific job. They actually set up a huge room that looks more like a store. They have shoes, pocket books, jewelry and dresses. The girls are given a time to āshopā. Itās a wonderful wonderful program.
One of them we actually DID buy at a prom dress resale event - the funds went to a local childrenās hospital. So yes, I would do that as well.
Thanks thumper! I gave quite a few dresses at the time but for some reason it never occurred to me to give the accessories and shoes. Sure wish I had. Guess I never actually read that they needed them but a whole outfit beats anything less. Iād rather help more directly if I can than just donating to GW so if anybody else has donation site suggestions Iād love to hear them.
I saw that article, too. One thing Iāve put off removing from our home is my motherās silver flatware. I have my own and donāt want hers. I offered it to my kids but they didnāt want it either. Even though I have no fond memories of family dinners using that silver, I still felt guilty about getting rid of it. I now plan to photograph and inventory it right after Easter and contact a couple of companies that buy old sterling. If that doesnāt pan out, then I will sell it to a local pawn broker who buys silver for both resale and for scrap. Whatever it brings will be welcome.
Sheets for the Humane Society is a great idea, VeryHappy. You reminded me that someone in our neighborhood collects old sheets and towels and takes them to the county shelter once a month, so I only have to drop them off a few blocks away instead of driving 20 miles.
