That’s a good thought gosmom. But call first, Marilyn!
H is out of town so I spent an exciting Friday night purging my closet.
The tally:
3 pair pants
4 pair jeans
1 sweatshirt
2 pair shorts
4 tops
6 sweaters
1 purse
1 pair shoes
Fall girl…when my husband is out of town…I purge HIS closet!!
This past week was not a success. I put out the garbage on Friday, and felt good about it. Great! Except garbage day is Thursday. I think I am setting the bottom of the curve on this thread.
Purged 5 Nordstrom paper shopping bags full of old scientific publications and patents! Tossed a bunch of tchotchkis (sp?) from the curio in the dining room. Then paid the ransom to ISIS (that’s what D’s school calls their tuition management service, LOL) and our property tax - online. Installed TurboTax, but have zero desire to waste my evening by doing taxes. I will go clean and throw away something else! I think I saw a bunch of old mobile phones in a drawer in the office…
Ha! amazing what can be accomplished when trying to avoid doing taxes!
I’m finally going to get rid of two suit jackets I bought about five years ago when I thought I was going to get a job offer that never materialized. The jackets never fit right, I don’t work in an office anymore, and I haven’t worn them in about four years. It’s time.
Oh – and that brown suit that wrinkles terribly every time I look at it.
I got rid of the suits a while ago…kept one black one just in case.
Now…I need to tackle the Chicos jackets…bet I have 15 of those…and black slacks.
Going to the rummage sale next week: small appliances that we have replaced, craft supplies I will never use, knick nacs I am tired of.
.
The going out pile is growing!
I also have a box of books that will be going to the spring library sale.
Waiting for Mr. Abasket to get home and take a small load of stuff to one of those special days when you can dump off computers, electronics, large furniture, etc. - I wish he would LOAD the car up!
Took a load of brush to the recycling yard!
Well good thing I asked about the book sale when I went to the library today - it’s next week! They are only taking donations through Thursday. Nothing on the library website, no signs in the library advertising the sale.
Got rid of that monstrosity of a TV/VCR/DVD player that came home from college with DD, but never moved out when she did.
And about 10 cans of paint, CFLs, and 2 hard drives.
I love community recycle days.
Can’t wait for the May 2nd community shred event!
This thread and April 15 motivated me to drop off 5 bags at Goodwill.
May I join? The weekly updates are inspiring. If they help me donate stuff monthly and get a handle on all things paper, I imagine … well, it’s hard to imagine how relieved, grateful, or positive I’ll feel.
I’d appreciate any suggestions for efficient ways to keep track of the donations. Thanks!
I just keep a list as a word document. The place where I make most of my donations gives me a form that I eventually fill out…just in case. It includes a sheet that estimates the worth of the items.
Glad to see this thread is still going strong. I haven’t done anything for a while - busy tax season. I’ve done 350 hours overtime in the las 3 1/2 months and yesterday was my first day off since January so i have had zero energy. Trying to get back into dejunking mode but it is hard with a hoarder husband who can’t bear to throw anything away. Anyone else have that and how do you cope! My 30 year marriage almost came to an end yesterday,& still may, over 2 squeeze grape jelly bottles that he had in the sink to wash and save (along with the hundreds of other old food containers) for something (we don’t even eat the stuff - the bottles and a ton of stuff came from his sister’s house a couple of weeks ago when she moved States to live near her daughter - she lived 6 hours away from us and he went to visit and came back home with a bunch of trash she wasn’t taking with her).
Anyway I’m taking my frustration out on the bathroom today. Cleaning (it needs it ugh) and throwing things away. Managed to sneak a bag of trash out. Gosh, I’m out of shape. I was exhausted after a couple of hours working on the bathroom!
Finally lost enough weight to wear the last three pairs of pants in the back of my closet. All three failed the ""Would you buy this now?"test. Added to bag.
If anyone has 100% cotton fabric or finished/unfinished quilt tops, I would be glad to take them off your hands! Am making quilts for a women’s shelter and while I am sending lots of junk “to Chuck” as we call it, I am accumulating fabric donations instead for this project.
ManhattanBoro, welcome!
Tested my new oven in front of the guests. Realized that I still had all the racks and trays for the old oven sitting in the dining room! All are in now happily resting in the recycling bin!!!
(De-thatched the lawn with my miracle electric thatcher from Amazon. That thing rocks! Filled a yard waste container to the brim with yard debris).
Yard waste also counts for “bag a week” - get your yard looking good too!
