The "Bag A Week" Club

Re post 1786–any aviation clubs around who may be interested?

Loaded the back of my car twice now and working on third load. Yea for me!

Have a lot of clothes (some with tags still–brand new essentially) but a bit older style (maybe–depends on how old you are!)–is it really worth it to consign or just donate?

gouf, if the clothes are “brand-name” (think DVF etc.) and the styles are not too outdated, it could be worth looking into consignment. Otherwise, just donate and write them off.

don’t forget that if take pictures and make a log you can take more off on your taxes

I’ve been clearing out my closet this week. I had alot of clothes that still fit, but that I never wore, so now they’re being donated. So far, I’ve got several bags to donate, and several bags that got trashed. Why was I keeping old jeans that I never wore anymore that were also ripped? Beats me, but I feel uplifted and motivated to hit the dresser drawers next.

Ripped jeans?! Tres chic, tres hip, tres sexy! And you tossed them?! LOL. That’s what I would have done with them, too. I’m not into holy clothes.

They were also kinda mom jeans-ish. I don’t wear jeans like that anymore and haven’t for awhile.

How is it going, my fellow de-clutterers?

Cleaned out my car trunk which was packed and found some items at home that needed to be returned to the store since I still had the receipts. I no longer have any gifts sitting at home. During the summer I had bags of graduation and birthday gifts all wrapped up and stored to be given. Finally have room in my closets. Found some homecoming dresses that my DD will no longer need. Not quite sure what to do with them. Finally threw out some clutter I had sitting in a corner. Nice to see empty space there now. Not sure what to do with DD’s old trophies that are sitting on the dresser.

Is there a nonprofit/program in your area that provides gently worn formal gowns to low income HS students?

Trophies are hard to deal with!

^^ will call our local high school to see if they take homecoming and prom dresses.

Yes, donated formal gowns to local HS last year and they will give to their students for proms. I got photos and prices of similar gently used gowns from eBay for FMV.

Donated two boxes of lung health materials to our DOHealth for a health fair. They were grateful and I’m happy to have more space!

Dropped off a blanket and a large bag of hotel toiletries with a friend who is part of a group that serves the homeless population. Lots of stuff going out this week for the church rummage sale.

Found a bunch of old cat and dog toys and supplies that my grandkitties no longer need! All is in good condition, and all will be donated to our local pet shelter. Will add some towels and linens, too!

Our local day centers/group homes for the mentally/physically challenged have proms. I’m sure they would also appreciate donations of gently used formal wear.

Packed two bags of clothes I no longer wear for the interfaith clothing center. Cleaned out under our bed today so I could put summer clothes in underbed storage and found a library book DH checked out seven years ago. Ooops. Am getting rid of knick knacks and picture frames that will never go with anything in our house (or DH’s office).

Delivered 15 quilts that we’ve made to a women’s shelter. Only 50 more to go!

That’s gotta be worthy of some kind of prize on this thread. Wow.

VH, the funny part is that DH swears he has never paid for a missing book! Also found under his side of the bed an empty box of ding-dongs with a expiration date that is truly embarrassing. (They weren’t mine.)

The amount of cleaning I’d have to do before I could even consider a cleaning service is beyond intimidating…

@countingdown: Maybe he didn’t check the book out but just swiped it. Not your husband, certainly, at least not intentionally, of course, but still –

Nope. Once he saw it, he remembered checking it out (it’s from a series he enjoys and he later bought the same title), and is taking it back to the library tomorrow!
