@Pizzagirl - I think most of your business casual clothes would be just right for an at home wardrobe. I dress business casual for work and wear pretty much the same on weekends if I am out of the house shopping, running errands, socializing, etc. When I was younger I went out in sweats, but don’t do that anymore.
65 garments, which includes 7 coats (2 wool capes, 1 wool coat, 1 down coat, 2 rain coats, 1 dressy coat)
I have no pants and wore out all the jeans. I have one pair of overalls from the Feed and Seed Store that I use for gardening or cleaning with bleach. I have 5 aprons (not included in the garment count. One my mother made me when I was in my 20s, one belonged to my grandmother) I’m not counting lingerie or my kids’ leftover tees/sweat shirts that i wear with the overalls.
I am not counting about a dozen keepsake garments, including my wedding dress and some garments that belonged to my mother and grandmothers. Those are packed away.
I want to see your house, Rosered. Is it minimalist as well?
How many handbags?
@alh just curious…if you have no pants and no jeans…what exactly do you wear…on the bottom half? Skirts?
Dresses
My house is still stuffed. My daughters have lots of clothing. Even though they have moved out, they haven’t cleaned out their wardrobes as much as I wish they would. My husband rarely throws things away. I’m afraid to go into the basement because of how disorderly it is. (My “minimalism” comes from years of not having enough money. Like many moms, I pared spending on myself first when my husband lost his job and decided not to work for several years.)
rosered: I am very sorry to have misunderstood the minimalism as purposeful.
edit: It was purposeful. It wasn’t necessarily what you would have preferred under better circumstances? I hope you are in better circumstances very soon.
I am so very sorry.
No apology necessary, alh. I was not offended. Things are getting better financially. My daughters have graduated from college and are self-supporting. I’d like to help D2 pay off her students loans, as we did for D1, but she wants to pay them herself. I’m very proud of my daughters; I just wish they had fewer clothes!
I just realized, I also have two or three dresses, but I rarely wear them. I don’t like my legs. And three cardigans. And I have been known to wear my daughters’ left-at-home clothes.
I just counted…I have 23 outerwear jackets and coats. I also have at lest 6 vests…either down or fleece.
Im not a shoe person… It I have ten pairs of boots.
The only time I wear a dress is for a fancy occasion like a wedding.
I wear all of my coats, but some get out of the closet only a few times a year. I tend to buy classic styles and stick to basic colors, so even the coats that are more than 10 years old do not look outdated. I was recently asked where I got my classic beige Burberry trench - the woman who asked has been on the hunt for a longer one, and the current offerings look very similar but are shorter.
Pizzagirl, I like your closet cleaning approach. Keep going. For comfy pants, my to to place is Vince - ponte fabric is awesome.
I have about a dozen pairs of shoes – a few flats, three pairs of clogs, one pair of sneakers, two pairs of sandals, two pairs of hiking boots, no dressy/casual boots. Am looking but not yet reconciled to what they will cost. I had about 12-15 pocketbooks, but I never used them. Have donated all but three. I just got a new Kipling, but it isn’t as large as I hoped. I like to be able to carry my 35 mm camera and a journal when I travel without having to carry a huge bag or wearing it around my neck because my neck and shoulders give me lots of trouble. Have several fleeces, short and long down coats, a red wool dress coat and a couple shawls. My thing is sweaters and scarves.
I have a lot of what y’all would consider sloppy casual stuff. I tend to go to work out and run errands at the same time, so I don’t look terribly polished. But my tush is covered when I wear yoga pants!
I used to wear skirts to work all the time, but have been on a dress kick the past couple of years. It’s a lot easier to find dresses that flatter me than dress pants.
Oh scarves. Are we counting scarves?
I’m the scarf queen, but I wear them almost all the time. My go-out-to-dinner-with-friends uniform is black slacks, black sweater, and scarf.
A black knit dress accessorized with a scarf is my wintertime “casual elegance” outfit.
I hoard shoes. Thankfully, kiddos wear the same size, so occasionally my collection get raided.
I have about 60. Culled a few last year but have started collecting them as souvenirs from trips we take. These days I tend to handmade/fiber art, though I also have a few that I can throw on as a quasi-blanket on the plane/train/car ride.
I like boots. I live in them from October through March and have several pair- low heels, high heels, riding style boots, as well as hiking boots and snow boots.
Aren’t we all so different! I have size 9.5 feet - I’ve always thought boots made them look even longer. Plus I have a very high arch and have always struggled to get boots on and off. The only boots I like have Vibram soles, laces and a gore-tex layer…
I’m also a size 9.5 and have high arches. Part of the appeal of boots is that with my narrow heels its hard to find stylish shoes that don’t slip off of my feet. I don’t have that issue with boots.
Hey I am a size 9.5 shoe too
Organizing closets is quite a chore. Hat’s off to those that have their houses tidy enough to go to that next chore. I am way behind, baby steps. But hopefully a big change will happen in my life with employment and I can have decisions directed by that.
9.5 here too! What are the odds? I hoard shoes, too. This year though, it’s all about the boots. I found tall wide calf boots that fit and look decent so I’ve been wearing those a lot. I have many coats, too- but when it’s cold 7 months of the year, they are part of a daily outfit.
