It is a good idea, but trust me, HIMom, I would be using those tools if they were usable or repairable!
I am not going to burden anyone with plain junk, which is what is sitting there in the greenhouse, mixed with my good stuff. The flower pots in good condition will get cleaned up and will go to Goodwill.
YES! many many bags and things H finally parted with such as an ancient microscope.
Talked with my frugal EBay selling friend and she might have sold things for me (but I would have needed to ship to her).
I am just happy when things leave and the bit of money, while would be nice, is less important to me.
That said, have two pieces of exercise equipment that we will try to sell on Craigslist this weekend.
But this book and that bookâno, just happy Vietnam Vets are so kind as to pick up!
DD will be graduating soon and says she may be renting her first place. She wants all of her furniture and anything that looks âshabby chicâ. Iâm hoping her plans come to fruition as furnishing her apartment with stuff from my house will be my largest donation to date.
I mentioned on the downsizing thread that Iâm on the call list for a local charity. Every two months, they call to schedule a pick up and we usually have some bags of clothing, housewares, etc. If we donât, I run around the house and have no trouble finding items.
Came home from lunch with a friend today to find that H had cleaned out the cabinets under the kitchen island. We put several things in the rummage sale pile in the basement
I spent some time last night putting all of my kidsâ game boxes and DVDs or whatever in one bin. I put all of the wires of undetermined origin in a big plastic bag. At least itâs a little neater.
I also tossed a bunch of old school papers (kind of a trip down memory lane).
I have one son who wouldnât care if I threw most everything away, and another who makes me feel bad if I throw anything away.
I took five bags and a full box of paper back books for donation today. And I donated DDs in excellent condition little stereo that has three CD changes, and cassette and radioâŠexcellent condition! Glad to see them out of this house!
Snowing today on the holiday so H and I both went through a bunch of files and shredded a lot of old stuff. In addition H pulled a few more things out of the basement cabinets and I bagged the clothes that are going to the rummage sale in April.
Three bags are waiting by the door to go to Goodwill tomorrow.
Shredding? YepâŠwe did that yesterday. Miracle the shredder didnât die. We have three tall kitchen bags of shredding waiting to go to recycling.
A huge victory! Mr. finally tossed the contents of the large bin that he brought home from work in the hopes of âsorting the papers.â
He did go through the piles and pulled out a few sheets to keep, but the rest went into the recycling bin.
I have pulled 5 lage bins full of American Dolls, Ginny dolls, clothes, furniture and etc.
Many little porcelen bunnies and ballarinas.
My own 1959 doll that is selling on ebay for $75 and mine is in better condition.
When I find my own Ginny doll she may be in the $200 range.
Nothing is junk which is making this more difficult.
D is home now but I only plan asking her after I have sorted. She is not that interested and does not have the time.
So, now figuring out what to keep, how to sell, what to donate, how to wash the doll
clothes. I have always just donated unless a large item but I am wondering if it could be fun and profitabel to find a flea market table for just one weekend. It could not be on-going as they start too earlyâŠand I am not that invested!
@oregon101, those American Girl dolls have probably gone out of production, so if you might have granddaughters who would enjoy someday, hold on to them. Just research and think twice before you dispose of them.
Dropped the bags at the Goodwill collection site earlier today.
Mr. found a few things to add to them.
Iâm back to working on clearing out files. Dh is traveling a lot this month, so itâs a good time for me to ruthlessly shred bags full of old statements and receipts.
Stopping by to read these posts every week or two has been good motivation. Thank you all!
Out-out-out. Re-doing all the floors after painting all the rooms. Extra bookcases donated, old kidâs clothing gone in 8 large bags. Excess linens, donated en masse. Very grateful for an organization that recycles household items nearby.
Freedom, I can hear it whispering. If we survive the ordeal, I hope it is shouting by the end of the project.
(not a good sign that I am procrastinating by posting now)
Yesterday I dropped off 24 books at the library for the book sale.
We recently bought new dishes so H took the old ones plus several other items to a local thrift shop yesterday.
Does anyone have any opinion about the safety of using shredding services? I noticed that at Staples one can pay by the pound for shredding.
How secure & private is this method?
I want to shred personal medical & financial info, as well as work-related documents that have sensitive information.
I donât know about the shredding services at Staples, but we use a service at work. A lot of very sensitive documents including financial information goes in.
Since we live in a cold climate, we burn our stuff in the fireplace.
