@Eatyoualive got accepted anywhere?
@Decibel(or shall i call you Decibel v2.0?) what do you wanna know about sat? i’ll be taking them too.

Thanks Eatyoualive!! I am waiting for a few decisions on Ivy day. I also have some other colleges’ decisions left, but those don’t matter much, now that i have a Vandy acceptance. Anyone got news on any more acceptances?

^you surely are one lucky person!!

@RoughE-Congrats 4 Vandy! Do u , by chance, hold a Physics Olympiad honour?

it seems almost everyone has applied somewhere. btw is there any folk who would be applying at this Fall? if so, then when do you plan to take the SAT? I plan to take my one in October as I want to apply as ed to a particular college.

and oh, are you following any schedule for SAT? @ akashdip

hi everyone, after a long time I am posting,so how is everything going? Congratz RoughE and other people who got accepted.

Thanks guys, all of you have been really supportive from the start.

@Hopeless1: Thanks mate. And nothing big in the Olympiads. I participated in the Dhaka regionals and placed for nationals. But I did not participate in the nationals which was held this week, as I was really not feeling the drive/determination. Its funny… the BDPhO has this facebook group, where tons of people discuss physics topics so enthusiastically. I realised I didn’t have the enthusiasm they did, and so decided to pull out. Just wish the Informatics Olympiad happened…

I’m getting all waitlists. Seriously. Vassar, Grinnell, Carleton, Lehigh. US hates me.

Vassar really hurts, as it was my top choice all along. Oh well…

@eatyoualive: seriously? My God, then the disquietude is painful! Hope it ends soon.

Eatyoualive,keep your hopes up,you will get accepted,:D

Hey guys I am also from Bangladesh but live in US. I am not US citizen/permanent resident.

I was accepted to Colgate and the Cooper Union among a few other places with decent FA. I was rejected from MIT, Vassar, Rice and am waiting to hear from the rest.

I encourage you all to keep faith in the admissions process. It is all very unpredictable. For instance, I thought I would be rejected from CU. In fact, I thought my application made me appear arrogant. But I was accepted and it tells you how unpredictable the process is. In some sense this uncertainty is a major flaw and stressor of the US system but it is what makes the US system so special.

Also, if you don’t get accepted anywhere, I encourage you all to reapply for the graduate schools after 4 years(PhD program). This is assuming that you are devoted to your subject enough to pursue a PhD. In the case of a PhD program in the sciences, your chances will be much higher in terms of both admissions and financial aid, even if you are international. After you receive your PhD, it won’t matter much where you went for your undergrads, assuming you can communicate well and know your subject well.

I have also heard, but cannot substantiate yet, that when you apply for a graduate program, you chances will be slightly higher if you were rejected from the same school in its undergraduate program. Obviously, this is only present for schools that have both undergrads and postgrads.

I wish you all the best of luck.

P.S. Just wondering, what subjects do you guys plan to pursue in college/uni? I am confused over economics vs. engineering.

NP

Hi NP,

I would be applying this Fall and would like to seek a degree in Engineering.

Decibel I see that you are from the University of Dhaka. It is one of Bangladesh’s finest schools. My mother went there! And my uncle has been a professor of physics there for many years.

Which engineering do you intend to pursue and why? I myself need some advice on choosing my subject.

Also, do they teach you any programming languages in Dhaka U even if you’re an engineering student? I’m just wondering because programming skills are highly useful in engineering, particularly with C++ and JavaScript.

My father and other uncle both went to BUET and did EE there, but I am surprised they have very little programming experience. I will highly advise you to learn a few programming languages. It will greatly help with admissions in grad schools as well as help with job prospects in general. This is true of any science major, whether engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, math or even economics/accounting. CS is something that may not be all that emphasized in Bangladesh, but should be.

NP

you guys are so cool! anyways, u.s. or no u.s., i’m gonna pursue a physics major with a computational mathematics minor.
@Decibel no i aint following a routine. i’ll be applying this fall too. i just got promoted to 12th grade.

@NPcomplete you serious? getting in for phd is easier than for bs/ms. i have a feeling that i wont be accepted for my bs/ms. also i wanna do my astrophysics doctorate from caltech or harvard. i know its tough to get in there, but i’ll try my best.

Hi everyone!!
I’m currently enrolling at 12th Grade, hopefully applying for Class of 2017. This thread is so helpful. Nd u guyz are superb!! Chicago, Vandy, McGill blah blah acceptance. :)

welcome to cc @ivyaspire.

Thnx @akashdip

We’re gonna be class of '17, ryt?
