The BEST eBook Reader

We were thinking of giving these as gifts. Which is the best one to buy?

Thanks!

p2n,

do a CC google search. We have had two or three threads in the last month talking about our experiences with them. I like the Kindle, which I have had for two months. My H has the Sony, one of the older models.

Here’s one of them.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/812986-kimble-sony-nook-discuss.html</a></p>

Here’s the other.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/818599-kindle-what-do-you-think.html</a></p>

Long story short - for myself, after much searching, talking with current Kindle owners, reading online, etc., I asked Santa for a Kindle 2. Suspicious box arrived Friday.

I think I’ll be happy with it.

I am waiting for the perfect emusic reader. Big enough to show a full size page or two of (say) piano music, with a very easy hand or foot page turner. Must read pdfs, be able to be safely propped on a music stand, have a place to plug in a thumb drive, etc.

Anyone got recommendation for this?

Thanks, folks. Great advice as usual.

I don’t know if it’s “the best,” but I have a Kindle DX, which can receive PDF files. I really enjoy it.

My Kindle just arrived in the mail. It is from my H but I ordered it myself. I briefly looked at it but decided I would make myself wait till the 1st night of Chanukah before I used it.

Here is a list of ereaders and the files they interpret: [List of e-book readers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Comparison of e-readers - Wikipedia)

I suppose at some point the ereader starts looking like a laptop or smartphone.

I absolutely LOVE my Kindle 2. I chose it over the Sony due to the ease in which you can download books - it’s instant and can be done virtually anywhere. Highly recommend!

An advantage of a kindle over reading books on a laptop is that there is no backlighting. It’s just like reading a regular book in that sense, so no eye strain.

Holding a Kindle is a lot easier than popping open a laptop on a plane or on the bleachers waiting for my daughter’s practice to finish or even the simple matter of lugging it around. So much more portable - which is the point.

I do have trouble reading online in the sun with a laptop, but the Kindle, no problem. I don’t have to go find shade somewhere to get out of the glare of the sun to read my book.

I was able to try out a Nook in B&N today, it was very nice. Even though delivery won’t be until January, I think this is the way we’re going to go.

My Nook has shipped!

Now I can’t wait for the cover I will hopefully get for Christmas. Check this site out:[nook handmade leather covers](http://www.oberondesign.com/nook.php)

My Nook arrived last night! Already loaded with Pride & Prejudice, Little Women, and Dracula. To which I added a few others. It’s pretty easy to use and I will really enjoy all the bookshelf space I won’t need anymore. I do miss being able to thumb through a book. My mother has a Kindle, so hopefully I’ll be able to compare the two soon.

Looking forward to the cover I ordered (see above link).

The answer to this question is none until a) the format war is resolved, b) other devices envelop a reader into their own set of features or a reader does a lot more than present text.

FF-Can’t wait to hear what you think of it. We did order a Nook for S3, but a Kindle for my dad as we didn’t think he could manage the touch screen as easily.

Which cover did you pick?
