Okay, we all know there are alotta of fake scholarships out there and some you never here back from. Which scholarships are the best in terms of the highest monetary value and just overall (alot of people can get it).
What are the best scholarships you have received?

Daughter’s best scholarships were local. Local Builders association awarded her $7500, and two other local foundations awarded her $12,000 and $8,000. Talk to your guidance counselor. GC should have applications for many scholaships. Be wary of these online scholarship links. She didn’t get a single true lead and tons of junk mail.

Best value:
Son got Educators Communication (Who’s Who) of $1000 for a ten minute application, no essay and great recs from teachers-school.

Also $1000/year from wife’s company in a competitive selection process.

Worst value:
NMS of $2000 of which his final school did not offer. BUT, school did offer a nice $5000/year institutional grant as incentive for attendence. The NMF status plus other scholarships from competing school played a significant factor in this school’s grant. We took the grant and left another $10,000/yr on the table at the other fine university. It was a hard swallow for me, easy choice for son, and logistically a better choice to leave the money.

My best (the ones above $1,000) have been from local organizations as well, especially labor groups, though I did receive one from the Coca-Cola Foundation and another from a major honor society that helped me quite a bit. I’ve found sites like FastWeb to be of very little use to me. Too many people apply, and local organizations seem to offer larger scholarships and are obviously more likely to accept someone from the immediate area, which helps with odds.

The 1000$ check from my university I unexpectedly got in the mail… well, it was more like $500, and then the school took off the other $500 from my tuition bill for the next semester. I had already gotten a 5k scholarship from the schoool for being a NMF… I suppose the rest was leftover funds or something.

It was awesome.

Merit-based scholarships from schools ranging from 2000-6500. Always nice!

Plus, I filled out a general business scholarship for the school I am going to (ASU). Worked on it for about 30 minutes. Also included a tentative budget form, which showed that I really didn’t need financial aid (but who doesnt??) and still got a $2500 scholarship out of it from Honeywell. Sweet!

The best one my son got was a $20,000 scholarship which goes to a math or science major (you must live in one of 18 southern Minnesota counties to apply).
