Everything you wrote is true! The difference between Boston & NY with respect to running the red light was eye-opening. You would be hit from behind if you ever stopped at the red in Boston, but you will be T-boned if you run the red in NY.
There is also a section of road where 95, 128 & Rt1 are all the same road, and I think another where one is posted as north and south at the same time–where 93N is 128S. It was very confusing to this new driver, driving around lost with my Hagstrom map book.
I could go on and on, but it would only be mildly amusing to those who drove in and through Boston.
As I mentioned above, I didn’t really have a “worst car.” I loved my 100-series (1998-2007) LC’s. I had two of them at various points in my life.
The 100-series LC/Lexus LX470 is legendary. They’re widely considered to be the “sweet spot” of the LC/Lexus LX470 timeline. They still garner good money on an upscale auction website that I watch daily.
One car that I loved was my 1966 Sunbeam Tiger, a car used by Maxwell Smart in the TV show Get Smart. I loved that car, but it sure had many eccentricities since it was a British car, but with a Ford V8 engine.
A car could be made by VW in Chattanooga but still have parts months away, especially in the world of just in time and coming from Germany or elsewhere.
The new Land Cruiser is a very different car. The older model was a luxury car and very expensive for a Toyota. The new LC is nice looking but a very different car. My other kid liked it but went with a new Highlander.
My daughter is considering selling her 2001 LC and her mechanic feels she will get a good price for it. It has a leaking windshield that she needs to take care of before El Niño hits.
I am just North of Boston and I felt this so much UNTIL driving in ATL. Holy heck driving down there is not for the weak!! I will take Manhattan, Boston or the DC/MD/VA Beltway traffic nightmare any day over ATL.
I have owned a Citroen DS (passed down by my father), a VW Rabbit (the first car I purchased), a Volvo 242 DL (?) that my GF then wife had, a Mazda 626, a Mercury Villager minivan, an Acura TL 3.2S, an Acura MDX, a BMW 335 GT (Sport model) and a currently a BMW X3 M50 and a Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD.
Worst cars? Probably the Citroen (needed a lot of repairs and anemic acceleration), the Volvo 242 (weak acceleration and a turning radius just narrower than a football field).
The Villager was also anemic but was an extremely functional vehicle for getting kids and stuff to places. So not in the worst car category even though underpowered. Incidentally, the Village and the Nissan Quest that @thumper1 above really liked (probably for the same reason we did) were essentially the same car.
Best cars. I loved the BMW 335 GT sport model. Great handling, very good acceleration, lots of storage space while driving like a sports sedan and not an SUV, engine sounded and felt great to drive. It was a pleasure taking on long trips like MA to FL. Like the Tesla a lot (the electronics is great, acceleration is great, and love the full self-driving) and the BMW X3 M50 has a beast of an engine, gets surprisingly good mileage, handles very well for the boxier shape, though the shape was good while carrying tons of stuff to Ontario for ShawD’s wedding, and the assisted highway driving makes longer trips easier (but is nowhere near as good as the Tesla FSD). I also like charging the Tesla from my solar cells so the we pay very little to drive it. We are taking it to a wedding this afternoon (about 70 miles round trip).
I may have posted this on CC before, but I learned to drive a stick when I worked at a very fancy car dealership in HS. I am sure I cost some people some money in clutch replacement or other issues… oops
