I don’t watch much TV at all and I’m watching this show for the first time right now. I live in a small town where you don’t see much of the hipster style as far as I know. I was reading a thread on here about hipsters and I was wondering if the way that the main characters on that show, The Big Bang Theory, are “hipsters”.

Please tell me you’re not serious.

Actually, tell me you are. Far more comical.

Yes, most theoretical physicists are hipsters. Leonard and Sheldon are no exception.

Stephen Hawking, ****in’ hipster. Did you SEE the cover of Brief History of Time?!

try hipsterrunoff dot com. that’s a funny site.

It used to be an awesome parody but I think it may have turned serious.

It’s never actually been a parody of hipsters, but it definitely has never been serious, and still isn’t. The humor is kind of hard to explain, you just have to read it for awhile to get it I guess.

I would say Raj, Leonard, and Walowitz(spelling?) definitely dress as hipsters, but their personalities do not entirely match the stereotype (though they do to some extent). Sheldon seems to dress too much like a 7-year-old to be classified as hipster style.

go to urban outfitters.com and look at the models.

hipsters dress like nerds, sadly that still doesn’t make 'em cooler

At least according to hipsterrunoff, American Apparel is THE hipster store.

^ A hipster can only have so many of the basic cotton V-neck tee with flashy metallic leggings. That’s where urban outfitters comes in, you see…

you’ve got it all wrong!

the guys from the big bang theory are dressed like stereotypical science geeks, because that’s what they are. They probably don’t even know what hipsters are (that is, if they were real and not TV characters).

sometimes hipsters like to dress similarly to the stereotypical science geek, in order to appear smarter. sadly, this generally just makes them look like tools in glasses.

also, I’m afraid that website may be serious. or at least the people leaving comments are under the impression it is :/

^yeah, poor nerds, they wear thick framed glasses, plaid, and mismatched clothes before any of that was cool…and still when they do it it’s not cool (because it’s not ironic when a nerd does it?)

I guess that means that hipsters don’t know that the founder/CEO of AA is a sexual pervert/harasser.

I guess I’m good because I never stepped inside of an AA or UO.

The guys from The Big Bang Theory aren’t hipsters, but their style could theoretically be classified as such. Hipsters tend to just be people who reproduce (or oftentimes just mimic) the style they imagine idiosyncratic individuals outside the mainstream (usu. w/ a liberal tilt) would have.

The Big Bang Theory Characters are supposed to represent nerds who don’t give a damn about general fashion trends and societally accepted clothing choices because they’re too busy concocting mind-boggling theories and such. Incidentally, this tends to (or is intended to by the fiction that is TBBT) mean that they’re idiosyncratic individuals outside the mainstream w/ notably atypical style.

Those claims are actually unfounded.
