The Boys of Summer

Seems it was not long ago, we were talking about the playoffs. The new season started today. Three games back to back on ESPN. I am in HOG HEAVEN!

Catching some nearby Triple A games over the next few weeks before son comes home from college. He is not a baseball fan, but that’s fine. Saves money on tickets and Mom and Dad get to have a beer at the ballpark!

Yep, baseball means summer! Life is good.

Yes, just checked the standings for MLB on the Foxsport page.
My Yankees are in first place in the AL East. 1-0 with only 161 more games to play.

Life IS good.

My Rangers open tomorrow afternoon. Hope I can follow the game online while at work. Maybe we can send the boss on an errand! lol Have a friend in the Mets organization so will have to root for them a little, too, if he gets called up. (sorry, musicmom  )

Yes!!! It’s finally here. Now if only spring would follow.

Spring arrived a few weeks ago here. Friday is forecast to be a perfect day for baseball at around 80 degrees. Unfortunately, an early spring usually means an early summer where even night game temperatures are almost unbearable!

The Boston Herald today proclaimed, in 4 inch high letters, that this year’s Red Sox team is the BEST TEAM EVER!!!

<a href=“Galleries, eateries and films – Boston Herald”>Galleries, eateries and films – Boston Herald;

So the rest of you can just give us the trophy and go home. It’s over.

Because if the Herald says it, it must be so.

I think the ridiculous exaltation of the Red Sox in the media is a result of a lot of wishful thinking by all the Yankee haters out there – particularly at ESPN (a/k/a the Red Sox Sports Network), where every single one of their 45 baseball “experts” picked Boston to win this year.

We shall see.

That’s pretty funny, most Red Sox fans think ESPN is filled with Yankee rumpswabs.

The Red Sox have only 2 reliable starting pitchers, and their middle relief is questionable, so I don’t think it is the slam-dunk everyone thinks it will be. They’re going to score a lot of runs though.

We have tickets to the A’s game on Saturday night. Our little team that could…if they had some $$!! But at least these tix are the best seats in the house.

Really…I am directly next to the dugout and can see which players do/do not wash their hands as they come out of the “facilities”. Our friends father got the seats when the stadium was built in the 60’s and has had them ever since. So the proximity to the team makes the whole thing fun.
Though last summer in these same seats my husband was hit in the ear with a speeding foul ball–and that was scary. A Bloody head, ice packs, 4 EMT’s, and the ball itself – we left with a tale to tell, and thankfully nothing else like a brain hemorrhage!
Hoping not to repeat that tomorrow night.

I and my fellow Cub fans will watch, and as usual, wait for next year.

My bold baseball prediction: our Mariners will suck  (please pardon my word choice)

Thank goodness we have the Sounders!

My H and two of my Ds (and their boyfriends) are going to the Jays opener tonight. There are all kinds of pre-game festivities, giveaways, and entertainment before the game even begins so I’m sure they’ll have fun. Toronto fans are hoping for another great year from Jose Bautista.

Took my dad to see the Red Sox in a Spring Training game. He had a blast - me, too!
Unfortunately they lost but we did get to see the “A” team play 5 innings.

It’s about time the Red Sox got some respect from the media. Game time is 4:05 today!
I am bummed because each time they are visiting at Camden Yards - it’s a weekday game. ugh. I anticipate dragging my butt into work a couple of days, esp since I am 2 hrs from baltimore.

Sunday I am going to DC to see the Nationals vs Braves. I hate the Braves ;). Can’t wait!

BB - who are the Sounders? Mariners minor league?

JustAMomof4, no, that’s a totally different ball game :)

[Home - Seattle Sounders Football Club](http://www.soundersfc.com/)

Although our Everett Aquasox (Mariners’ minor league) aren’t bad!

Red Sox tickets are stupidly expensive, impossible to get, and Fenway is the most run-down, uncomfortable arm-pit of a ballpark there is these days. I don’t care how “historic” it is, when I have to eat my knees for 9 innings and face the centerfield wall instead of the plate, it is not a pleasant experience. Throw in $40 parking on top of that…

So we rarely go to games - usually only if someone gives us tickets for free.

Camden Yards is awesome. I’m jealous.

The season is young and we’re already 1/2 game back of NY :-(

notrichenough - true story:
a couple of years ago we saw the red sox in b-more. we took the light rail in and spent the afternoon at the inner harbor and then to the game at 7. the inner harbor was just flooded with red sox fans. we rode the light rail out after the game and talked to some fans from MA. They were headed to Amtrack to head back to Boston. It was cheaper for them to take the train down and back to B-more than to see a game in Fenway. LOL.
Try it this summer!

One of my true baseball players is hearing Yankees fans having something to kvetch about, always! There are some things you can always count on.
