garland,
So true. I started following Liverpool when they got Torres. Now I just like them.

I thought the Rangers were getting a new ballpark, too. Say it ain’t so, Joe! I am dying to go to the Ballpark at Arlington. It looks so nice!

As for Cellular Field, I did like that it was an open air stadium. We just didn’t care for the staff. They rushed us out of there so fast! We really wanted to look around. We did enjoy the area outside the stadium, though. It was shortly after they won the World Series, and there was a great “monument” to the win near the entrance.

But Minute Maid Park is the stadium I referred to as soulless. It really did feel more like the domed football stadiums, with cramped seating, and no real “connection” to the field. Camden Yards, I remember, had comfortable seats, and I felt just as close to the field as I did at a minor league park.

Had the pleasure of going to Ray Winder Field in Little Rock, right before it was knocked down. Just like going to a kid’s playground. It was awesome! Sure, it was Double A, but some great prospects were there that day, Angels versus Royals. Royals had several top draft picks on their minor league rosters that year. Vendors came around with Funnel Cakes on a tray, players were within a few feet of you, on wooden benches in their “dugout”. The whole team lined up to sign every kids’ baseball. You don’t even get that in Triple A anymore. The stadium was 75 years old at the time. A true gem that will be sorely missed.

Red Sox 0-6! Best team evah! (Or so said one headline I read before the season started.)

Schadenfreude can be so much fun when it comes to the Red Sox. Back in the 1970’s, one of my favorite things about the Yankees beating the Red Sox was reading about it in the Globe and the Herald the next day.

Oh, y’all are actually talking about baseball! When I saw the title, I figured it was about the longitudinal study of young boys admitted to Kindergarten with the latest birthdates in their class cohort. Study was called “the boys of summer” and yes, they struggled throughout grade school and beyond with social immaturity, height issues and it affected their self-esteem and in some cases, academics.

You didn’t want to hear about that at all, did you? Play ball! (Baltimore Orioles fan here but only attended the old stadium).

Paying3tuitions-
Aren’t your Orioles on top of the AL East right now?
And Boston is 0-6!
My Yankees just won a squeaker 4-3 today, I’ll take it

Soooo happy for baseball.

Don’t get too excited about the Red Sox. Our Blue Jays are in second place with a 4-2 record, and those two losses were 1 run squeakers. I’m no more confident that they’ll continue on that path than I am that Boston will continue on theirs! :)

Ohhhhh Red Sox!! I am embarrassed to wear my cap. Gonna start rooting for the O’s and Nationals - LOL.
Perhaps they are so good they decided to spot every team 6 games this year?
Still, I am excited for the home opening series vs the Yankees! It’s a long season - they have 150 games to go!

Yup, Boston is looking to win it’s first game of the season right now against my Yankees.

What’s up with Phil Hughes??? Anyone know?

Yeah, he’s pitching like he’s on the Red Sox.

The game isn’t over yet, the Sox can still blow it.

Went to the White Sox home opener yesterday. It was overcast and chilly (low 40s), but they won so it was good. Jackson threw 13 strike-outs.

Although The Cell might be soulless, I will choose to go to a game there over Wrigley any old day of the week. What was previously said about Wrigley a few posts up, is absolutely true. No one goes there to watch baseball. At least at The Cell, people care about the game and know what they’re talking about.

My one BIG grief with The Cell, though, is that I’m completely convinced they have blocked any cell service that is not U.S. Cellular. Neither H or I can get any cell service when inside the ballpark (we have AT&T). It is SOOOO frustrating.

^^^^^ Agree w/all! By the way, ‘New Comiskey’ aka U.S. Cellular is not so new -I believe it’s 20 years old now??? Much more family friendly than Wrigley.

1 and 6, baby!!! We’re on the way!!!

Although - shouldn’t a guy with a $142 million contract be hitting higher than .143? Just asking…

Manny Ramirez retired this afternoon to avoid a 100-game suspension for (apparently) failing another drug test. Interesting.

So, the ultimate boy of summer made me resurrect this thread.

Jeter reaches 3000 hits as a Yankee and then keeps on going.
Ended the day going 5 for 5, with the game winning RBI and a stolen base.
Oh and the milestone hit happened to be a home run!

You REALLY can’t make this stuff up.
Congratulations to the old man many had written off.

How have I missed this thread???

Bottom of the ninth, down by one, and Josh Hamilton hits a two-run homer to win the game. WOOHOOOOOO! Love my Rangers. I was up in DFW this week when the fan fell to his death. Very sad around those parts. Freak accident that I hope doesn’t cause an overreaction by MLB.

Praying for Josh, he’s such a good guy, and I know he will be greatly affected by the fan’s death.

As for Jeter, he’ll never be an old man. Such a quality guy who loves his parents, who are often in the stands for his games. So proud of him making the 3000.

Looking forward to the All Star Game next week. Lance is back in it this year, as he’s resurrecting his career as a Cardinal. Even though my favorites are well into their thirties now, they’ll still be the Boys of Summer to me.

Derek Jeter has had an amazing career. congrats to him.

I got home just in time to turn on the TV to see Josh hit the walk-off. So glad for him knowing he is playing with a heavy heart.

Red Sox bashers got mighty quiet. Should be an interesting second half with injuries and pitching the main factors in who wins it all.

I’m glad they cheered for Josh. :)

Yankees are up on the Red Sox by 2.5 games.
The old man Jeter is hitting almost .300 for the season after looking pretty old earlier.

And, who is this youngster, Jesus Montero?
Two home runs in this game?

Hope for my team yet!!!
