That’s awesome! You both could certainly use a little good news about now!
I’m so excited. I’m singing God Bless America tonight at our baseball team in Hartford!
How cool is that!?!? Congratulations!
Such a beautiful day, too! Go Yard Goats!
Just circling back. I did my singing and I was happy. A bunch of our neighbors came too, which was really nice. We had a terrific evening! Definitely will go just to see a game!
My DIL won a human rights award from her law school!
And ds2 released a new single today! A departure from his usual stuff, but I love it.
The team ds1 coaches is going to nationals!
I’m a 67 year old stroke survivor. After a lot of hard work I’ve learned to run again, even participating in a couple 5k’s (3.1 miles). I’m in pretty good shape, but I haven’t been running much lately, instead using a rowing machine for my cardio. Until recently…
A couple months ago my daughter told me she’d be running in the Brooklyn Half Marathon (13.1 miles). Next thing you know I’d agreed to fly out and run it with her and found a 7 week training plan (as opposed to the more typical 18-20 week plan).
My daughter told me the pace she was aiming for and I trained striving for the same pace. We agreed that we’d try to stick together but neither would allow the other to hold them back.
The race was today and we crossed the finish line together.
I can’t recall being happier.
That is such a great story, and I hope you’re proud of yourself for making it happen! Keep up the good work.
Can’t love this enough! Congratulations!!!
That is so awesome!!! Congratulations to both of you! What a special day to remember
You are amazing!!!
Amazing!! Sending huge congrats!!
Thank you. Here’s the back story. A year or two after my stroke I went through intensive rehabilitation therapy and basically had to learn to run again. But it was pretty dicey, running a few awkward steps, tripping, trying again, rinse and repeat. My daughter was incredibly helpful through this, encouraging me to go out on the mountain trails with her, where we’d walk 25 paces, run 25 paces, I’d trip, try again and she’d help me through it, until eventually I could run trails again.
So when DW and I were trying to schedule a trip to New York to see our kids, at first DD suggested we not come this weekend, because she’d be preoccupied with a half marathon. But we thought “no, we’ll come and cheer you on”, but then she came up with the crazy idea that I run it with her.
That encouragement triggered memories of her supporting me through rehab, and I quickly resolved to do it.
You can call me amazing, and thank you, but my daughter is the truly amazing one.
My wife had her stroke 3 years ago at the age of 58. She was in the hospital for 20 days and required several surgical procedures.
She has made a full recovery based on determination, hard work and a never ending sense of optimism.
People like you and her are amazing, and I base that on my admiration and first hand knowledge of what it takes to recover and thrive!! Keep winning!!!
You and your D are BOTH amazing!
@sherpa that is wonderful! A huge congratulations to you and your daughter!
The story just adds to the wonderful accomplishment!
The world needs more inspirational stories like this. You should be very proud!
@sherpa- You are truly an amazing human being on so many levels. I remember back in 2011, you offered to get us ski lift tickets at your local Costco near the slopes. You didn’t know me from Adam‘s house cat, but you did this incredibly kind gesture and we met up for sushi lunch (if I remember correctly). That is the beauty of this incredible community. I will never forget that gesture and you deserve every bit of happiness you had today. Congratulations.!
You AND your daughter are amazing.
Family is everything!
