My wonderful daughter is thriving in the male dominated tech world. Promotions amidst downsizing and, even with her promotion to management, unlimited vacation time so long as she doesn’t abuse it.
ShawD has worked as a family nurse practitioner doing primary care for a decade and serving as the medical director of several primary care clinics for the last few years as well. In the last wo years, she studied at night for a second degreed in psychiatric mental health. In the last year, she completed the degreee, passed the boards, organized a wedding, got married over Labor Day weekend, gave notice to her employer, rented an office, incorporated a Professional LLC and will open her practice next month.
A number of her patients have expressed a strong interest in following her.
Very impressive to pull all this off in a couple of years (she rents out the other unit of the two-family house she bought a few years ago and has partially renovate). Proud of her.
Update on my daughter. She’s AI savvy in a company that is pushing AI.
But…She’s substituting as a project manager on a team working on a project unrelated to her normal role and recognized they were spinning their wheels trying to implement AI where it wasn’t working. She determined this was a case where AI wasn’t the answer, got buy in from the team, and made the decision to ditch it.
Upper management loved it.
Hero daughter strikes again. Mass casualty event landed in her ER last night. All victims survived, including one of her patients who had 9, yes 9, serious gunshot wounds. She said her team performed admirably and she is very proud of everyone.
Son came in 3rd at what I think is his second “gravel” race this last weekend. I suspect the season is getting close to over, but he’s done great. He went from a level 5 racer to level 3 after just a few races, and he’s having a great time, which is more important.
I often get sea motion sickness. I cruised through the recent storm without getting sick at all. I even ate all my meals. Had to give credit to the wrist bands.
I went to my 2nd backgammon tournament ever, where I lost in the novice division, but made the semi-finals of the Women’s Open tournament! I ended up playing the reigning World Champion Women’s player, who of course won, but I held my own! I cannot tell you how thrilled that has made me!!
Instead of being placed in a corner to color while riding out his last two months in the Army, our son was selected to join a team of impact engineers representing all of the major players in the military AI cyber ecosystem to solve an urgent but classified problem. With a direct line to the administration, this team has been sequestered 18 hours a day, six days a week for the past six weeks with an edict to solve this issue or never leave that room. Though we could know nothing about the problem, our son would share on Sunday calls that he and the AI-enabled cyber tool he developed were having a major impact on the mission.
He went into this project having verbally accepted a position with a boutique cyber organization in the DC area. However, after collaborating intensely with him for the past six weeks, three of the big companies in that room started bidding for him as his tool and his talents solved the problem last week. The CTO of the largest company reached out to him last week and eventually outbid the other two. Last night, he accepted their offer. He will have a direct line to the CTO and will build an organization partly to embed his tool into one of their major platforms but primarily to develop functional capabilities to advance our national security.
And he and his wife have just joined the 1%. Now I have no idea what to get them for Christmas.
I feel better knowing your son is working on this issue! Congratulations to him!
You must be so proud!
Sounds like it’s time for the script to flip … he should be showering you with gifts! ![]()
Wow, that’s fabulous @ChoatieMom !
Just saw something on Insta referencing a certain incident that has been in the news. This person asked if any men were posting about it.
You know who did post about it being terrible? My son.
My dd was recently accepted to a physician assistant program!!! This was her 2nd application cycle after graduating college in 2025 from a NESCAC. The competition is insanely fierce between the grades you need to have and the amount of patient care hours you have to accumulate to even be considered. They greatly exceed the minimum requirements listed on school web sites. She was a four-year starting player in her collegiate sport while being a STEM major. Just insanely proud of her and had to share the great news!
CONGRATULATIONS to your daughter!!!
Thank you so much! There’s nothing quite like hearing happy tears over the phone when it’s good news! ![]()
Congratulations! That is huge news! Wishing her the best!
Thank you!! ![]()
