After reading the dire and very scary warnings this week, I feel better knowing your son is part of the process to improve national security. Thank goodness you and your husband passed on brilliant genes!
We’ve told him to use his powers for good.
Our son shared this with us tonight. He is leaving the Army on such a high note. But he’s exhausted. He has only a week before his last day in the military and starting his new job. He and his wife are going to take that honeymoon they’ve postponed since they married in ‘23. They haven’t decided where yet but they sure deserve it.
I feel like it’s the end of an era… congrats to him on leaving and heading off to make the big bucks. I do find it a little sad that so many young people are taking the same path (as you know consultants make WAY MORE money than civilian federal employees or military). But he’s earned his keep, and seems to have great things to look forward to. Hope they’ll be pouring some nice champagne and maybe you can join them virtually.
Out of the blue, D2 texted this to me: “Thanks for always advocating for us. My friend is having some terrible health issues and dealing with all these doctors who keep pushing her off and has no parents to help her. You do a lot for us and always make things happen”
Yes, I got teary.
Remember, the company that hired him was in that room on this classified project. He is just changing seats, not focus. Not only is the military NOT losing his skillset, it will benefit immensely from the agency he will have in his new position to do things the military is too limited to effect. Unfettered by military bureaucracy and scope, he will have a much more direct impact on our national security from this company than he could have at Joint Forces. He’ll just be better compensated.
As an example, the tool he built that was instrumental in helping solve this classified problem was something that was out of scope for his unit so they wouldn’t take it on or fund it, so he built it himself on his own time under his private company; he owns the IP. The military now wants it, but they can’t buy from an individual, so this company is buying him and the tool and giving him all the resources to scale it so they can sell it…back to the military. He’s not heading off, he’s just moving over.
Good for him. Congrats.
Congratulations to your daughter. I think the PAs and NPs are one of the sweet spots of the health care system as it is currently configured.
Thank you so much!
My cousin when he retired from the military said. On friday I was Major H, on Monday I was Mr H. Nothing else changed.
But his bank account. ![]()
Congrats to your son. He’s intelligent enough to transform an honorable mission into a financial success. We need all the help with national security that we can get. I wish him the best.
SIL will give the keynote speech at a dinner Tuesday right before the state governor , who will in attendance, will announce a British company [name redacted to protect SIL’s privacy] is opening its US headquarters in Arlington, VA, a deal SIL helped broker.
With my return to CC, it seems fitting to share some exciting news about my daughter that originally brought me to this site when she was in high school, looking at colleges.
We’ve known since the week before Labor Day that she had officially made it into the official Jeopardy! contestant pool, and would be filming in LA in mid-September! We were not supposed to tell anyone until her official photo with Ken Jennings taken the day of taping occurred was released, but I may have told a few select people that I trusted not to tell. But I didn’t make any announcements on social media, which required a lot of restraint on my part!!! Being on Jeopardy! has been a long-time dream of hers!
Today she made it official - picture and all, so I was able to post it to socials! It airs later this month. We have no idea how she did, but our older daughter (who lives four doors down from us) was in the studio audience, so she knows. I’m so very tempted to post the date here, but then doing so would sort of out her on this site, with all the information I’ve shared about her high school and college experiences, and it leaves me feeling uncomfortable.
However, proud momma here will offer to share the date via PM if there are any Jeopardy! fans here who would like to root for her.
We will have a small watch party here at our house - since we moved to MA, no one here really knows her (she lives in CA), but we will invite the few who have met her. H will smoke a brisket on our Big Green Egg and we’ll have some Prosecco just in case
. Our church committee chair was on Jeopardy! a couple of years ago, so we’re inviting her, too, so she can provide a running commentary.
But yea, we’re so proud of her for sticking with it for so long!
IMO cracking open a bottle of prosecco is in order regardless of the outcome of the game. Hope she has a wonderful experience.
You’re probably right, @happy1 !! Regardless of how she does, 3rd place gets $2000, and 2nd place gets $3000; of course then there are those pesky taxes on winnings. But it is a huge achievement regardless and I admire her tenacity for keeping at it for so many years.
S tried out when they went to his campus but wasn’t chosen. He didn’t persist. He tends not to be that well-balanced on trivia so likely wouldn’t do well on categories he isn’t as familiar with.
My D was on the college tournament many moons ago. It was quite the experience! How exciting for your daughter!

in any case. ![]()
That is one of the few shows I’ve watched since college. I’m happy if I can correctly answer a few, so I see this as an enormous accomplishment
