Decades ago, one of my brothers-in-law appeared on Jeopardy. He was not permitted to reveal how he did, but the new Mercedes gave it away.

Don’t be jealous, but ds1 is staying with us, and when I got up he had already unloaded the dishwasher. What??? Lol

I had a law school classmate be a jeopardy contestant. She won 2 games but lost the 3rd. She won a dining room set but they told her she’d have to pay shipping to have it sent to HI. She agreed but never got a shipping bill.

I didn’t know that Jeopardy! contestants received anything other than cash prizes.

I tried out for Jeopardy a few decades ago when you had to go in person and take a written test. It was hard and I did not pass.

Two of S’s good friends from HS have been contestants. One made it through a few rounds in the collegiate tournament and won $10K , the other came in third in a regular game.

Good luck to your D @teriwtt !

Back in the Art Fleming and early Trebek days there were definitely physical prizes in addition to cash. D got a Wii in addition to cash.

I see, interesting. I only started watching Jeopardy! on a semi-regular basis a few years after graduating college (and not so much lately, after Alex Trebek passed away). So this might have been before then.

Wow! I’d forgotten about Art Fleming being the host before Alex Trebek!!

So they tape five episodes in one day. All of the new contestants go to the green room, and as the next game is queued up to play, they draw names out of a hat for the next two contestants until all ten contestants have played. The contestants watch the games from the green room. But D1 said one of the games that D2 had not been chosen to play yet was the hardest game she’d ever watched, and guessed that it must have been nerve-wracking for D2 as she watched from the green room.

In the end, it all really depends on the categories that come up during your game and your strengths.

Today is the last day of our visit with D1, SIL and 1 year old GD. D1 had to work a few hours the past couple of days and H and I have been in charge of GD. Yesterday we took her to the park and today we took her to see the animals at the small farm close to their house. GD went for her 1 year checkup this morning and had 4 shots and a finger prick, but she is in good spirits. I rocked her to sleep this afternoon and ended up nap trapped. No complaints from me holding the sweetest girl for an hour while she slept.

Congrats to your D. Our S was on Jeopardy back in 2019, so still during the Alex Trebek era. Back then, the contestants were only in the green room for pre-show general information and filling out mountains of paperwork. During the tapings, the contestants sat as a group in the “family and friends” section. After each show, a Jeopardy officiant would come up to this group and randomly pick the contestants for the next show. S won 2 games and lost by $1 on the third game. H & I went to the taping. I have been a Jeopardy fan since the Art Fleming days. It was such a thrill.

So incredibly proud of my daughter! She received her first medical school acceptance. All of her hard work and dedication are paying off. The journey is just beginning, and we couldn’t be happier for her! :stethoscope::tada:
