<p>I wouldn’t be so sure. “Committee” is a collective whole but is still sometimes referred to as plural.</p>
<p>When you refer to a collective noun’s singular parts you use a plural verb. </p>

<p>This reminds me of something - I don’t know how many of you follow football (“soccer”) but it really bugs me when Americans refer to a club/team as singular, especially those in Europe.</p>

<p>I got a full tuition scholarship to Ohio Wesleyan. And I got a financial aid offer from Chicago. I can’t really make sense of it. My grant is only $35,000, which means I would have $20,000 to pay myself, with some of it being school-sponsored whatever loans. But The random things like the Pell Grant weren’t listed on there. And that was just an estimate. At this point, it’s looking like Chicago will be too expensive, especially with full tuition at Ohio Wesleyan. Ohio Wesleyan isn’t really a crappy school, and I’d be fine with going there (after a visit, of course). And my parents like Ohio Wesleyan.</p>
<p>The pell grant stuff probably isn’t in yet because FAFSA isn’t turned in until February or whenever. </p>
<p>Congrats on the scholarship! I got $2,500/yr for some departmental scholarship at UIUC, not quite full tuition, but every little bit counts.</p>
