The Cafe Watering Hole

I learned incorrigible from the Sound of Music lol

I learned it from French.

So, Heroes it is.

Fine. Just ignore me. I don’t mind.

Six sheep sell seashells by the seashore.

She. Not six sheep.

Heroes is kind of awesome.

Um. I’ve kind of been telling you Heroes was awesome for years.

OMG years.

A year, not years. God.

Snoopyiscool, what if we end up at the same college?

I would laugh my head off if Rocker went to Tennessee for college. The good part is that it’s nice and toasty warm during the winter.

I put my iPod in Spanish, just for fun. Now iTunes sends all of its emails in Spanish. Whatever.

I put my iPhone in Chinese :p

The Canadian is a future Yalie, if I remember correctly.

I sleep way too much.

And Taylor Swift is hot.

Taylor Swift is hot, Mike. =0

I know run, I know. JB isn’t a fan, only god knows why.

So how’s Duke? I still have to finish the supplement so tell me how awesome it is to motivate me.

Lol, Mike. I love it! I can’t wait to go back. It’s like the perfect mixture of academics, sport, and parties. Of course, there are some things I would change, but for the most part, I think I made a great choice. Now I need to make up my mind on what I want to major in… and quickly.

How are the college applications coming?

AWKWARD. And it’s funny you used my whole name.

HAH.

I dislike kumquats.

They’re going all right. I was deferred at Stanford on the 15th so I’ve been rushing to finish all of the supplements these last couple of weeks, but overall I’m pretty happy with my apps.

Yeah. I really think that unless you did absolutely no research on colleges, you’re gonna fall in love with whatever college you choose.

Yeah, I’m not too concerned. I mean, it’s college, how bad could it be?

I had to turn in housing for UIUC all ready so I don’t get stuck in the isolated all-male dorms if I go. Most likely I’m just throwing $300 down the drain.

I think I did the same thing at either UChicago or OSU last year… I can’t remember which one.

Hello .

Goodbye.

That song has been in my head all day.

Did they tell you to turn in housing already? Or was this just conventional wisdom? Should I do that? Details.

I’m not happy at all with college. It seems like my top choices are all incredibly unaffordable. First is Chicago. If the grant is only $35,000, there’s no way I can afford that. Even if I expect to make $60,000 per year upon graduation, it would still take way too long to pay off $80,000 in debt. And that amount just doesn’t make any sense.

I got $22,500 from Case. That’s the only college I visited, and I loved it. But the financial aid will have to be stellar or that won’t work either. I’m sure I can expect some, but the total cost is something like $47,000 per year. That means that I’d have to get lots of aid, and I don’t think Case guarantees to meet full need. Yes, run, I’m looking at Case. Shut up.

I now have my full tuition scholarship from Ohio Wesleyan. Their need-based aid should pay for at least some of my room and board, so that’s looking like a good choice for me. It’s a bit small for my tastes, but 2,000 students is enough. My high school has only 180 students, so I guess most colleges are an improvement. And I really like Delaware and its proximity to Columbus. And my parents like it because it’s only two hours from home. To be honest, I’d basically written this off as a viable candidate, but the full tuition scholarship really appeals to me.

I still have OSU and Kenyon pending. OSU might offer me something good, and a campus that big is going to have opportunities. There is enough going on both on campus and in Columbus (pop. 725,000) that I shouldn’t be bored, even if I find the rest of my college experience atrocious. Kenyon probably isn’t going to work. They give merit aid, but it’s going to be impossible for someone with my stats to get it. I believe they also guarantee to meet full need, but judging from Chicago’s aid, I doubt that will work out well for me.

Bleck. I suppose I should get cracking on my Princeton supplement. I have most of it done. So why can’t I finish it?
