"The Case for Change in College Admissions” Conference

<p>A long-ish article about the conference (hosted by USC, Jan 26-30, 2011) can be found here: [Admissions</a> Officials Do Some Soul-Searching - Head Count - The Chronicle of Higher Education](<a href=“http://chronicle.com/blogs/headcount/admissions-officials-do-some-soul-searching/27814]Admissions”>http://chronicle.com/blogs/headcount/admissions-officials-do-some-soul-searching/27814)</p>

<p>Some of their recommendations:
• Change measures of quality from application counts and admission rates to measures of what students know and can do
• Invest recruitment monies at underserved schools rather than top-flight high schools where resources are plentiful
• Adopt common calendars and deadlines to help students more easily navigate the admissions process
• Do not market to students who have no chance of being accepted
• Develop recruitment and admission collaboratives to improve information about going to college and about college selection
• Design recruitment messages on educational mission rather than on exclusivity and scarcity.</p>
