How prestigious is it compared to West Point? I know its pretty much in its shadow

Some may point out that West Point is a service academy and The Citadel is only a college. That being said, those who live in the south refer to The Citadel as “the West Point of the South”. There is the same dedication to traditions and honor, the same camaraderie, many of the same challenges that take place there. The campus is beautiful and Charleston is a great city. This year, they have a new incoming President who was the Superintendent for The Air Force Academy. His name is Rosa I believe and he is a Citadel graduate. The Mayor of Charleston is a Citadel grad along with several senators and other political figures. They do produce leaders. Your first year as a knob WILL be tough. Books written by well-known author Pat Conroy tell of his time there. Cadets there are also known as the long gray line and major in two fields, one of their choice and the other in leadership. They offer all four branches of ROTC and most sports. Graduates tend to be hooked up just as with the service academies. Perks include the use of The Citadels beach house. I happen to have first hand knowledge of the place and feel its a great alternative to those who do not gain appointments but want the military atmosphere. If military life is well suited to you, you can live it for four years before you decide to sign on the dotted line or not. Unless of course you seek an ROTC scholarship where as you will have to serve a commitment. At the end of the day, The Citadel is considered prestigious because of the honorable Cadets who attend there. Get on their website and explore it some. They also have a live web cam to see some of the campus and on Friday afternoons you can view the parades. www.citadel.edu To those who would tell you otherwise, keep in mind that not everyone can get an appointment to a service academy. Options need to be kept open and The Citadel is a pretty good one outside of the service academies.

wow thanks a lot :)

Hi,

I’ve currently been accepted to the Citadel and I’ll be heading out there in August. Im an international student and I would like to know what to expect in my plebe year. Im kinda worried about my physical preformance, Im way below the requirements but Ive been working on it for months now. Ive also lost alot of wieght, around 40 lbs, so Ive improved greatly from where I was months ago. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

what were your stats that got you into the Citadel?..Do you know what the average SAT and gpa’s are? What is their acceptance rate?

dont know much about their acceptance rate… My SAT was very low 1030, never paid much attention to it… my high school GPA was 4.1 due to all the AP courses i took… and then I also took 2 semesters at Florida State University- Panama Branch… i guess what really looked appealing to the Citadel was that i was a international student that came from a country which served as the US military’s old Southern Command HQ

I’ve been accepted to the citadel and have also recieved a 4 year rotc army scholarship…i threw it all away so i could go to nmmi this coming august with AOG prep so i can go to usma…think about what you really want. If you have any questions about the citadel, PM or IM me…i went there for a week and also went to the pre knob visit…
