The Class of 2010 ED Thread/Roster

Still can’t decide on essays… sigh T_T

You’re not the only one… I’ve been writing about rugby and stuff but somehow that doesn’t fit in with maths or anything intellectual. I dunno but i really get the impression people think that being a good athlete automatically means ur like less of an intellectual than anyone else - especially contact sports.

I’m even thinking about not writing about rugby but then it doesn’t seem like me anymore.

Maths + Rugby = something that doesn’t sound right

The harvard forum has this discussion about hooks and that seems quite interesting. It seems everyone needs to almost advertise themselves with their essay and just making it all work out is for many people the fine line between admission and rejection.

Its times like right now when I’m trying to write the most perfect essay in my life I wish I played less rugby, read a few less books and spent much more time doing writing.

Oh well. Good luck everyone

Hey guys, I’m Eve from New Zealand, and im thinking of applying ED to Princeton.
I know what you mean Kjoodles.
I’m really into maths ( i was on our IMO team for the last 2 years), but then I’m also into all these other things that are quite unsteriotypical (sorry don’t know if that’s a word) of an intellectual. Like horseriding, dancing, basketball and art.
It’s so hard to choose what to write, especially when your interests don’t really seem to ‘fit together’.

I’m planning on trying to write something funny…

You should just write who you are. My Ds main essay was about termites, protists, and a junior class retreat to Taos, New Mexico and discussions of racism in America. Those were thing that for her fit together. Then she talked about ballet and journalism, her big ECs, in other essays.

Write an interesting essay that sounds like a real teenager could have written it. If it happens to be about rugby, so be it.

Hey guys…

drum roll

I’m taking myself off of the ED roster. (gasp!)

For a full explanation, check out my thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=97276

Anyway, I’m really glad I got to know all of you, and don’t worry… i’ll still be posting here! Good luck in the ED round… you all deserve to get in, and I really hope that most of you do. You are all awesome people :)

nooooooooooo, a defector ;). but good luck.

Hey, guys.
I’m Eric from New Zealand, and I am applying ED to Princeton.
****!
You know what I just realised.
Princeton = Prince + town!
That’s pretty damn slow of me to have just noticed that.

Two International Mathematical Olympiad New Zealand team members, ED to Princeton.
Hmmmm…
And I do math and rugby.
Not hard out at rugby, but I still play it.
And Eve plays touch rugby.
Well, I guess it’s like the national religion down here though!

Just a few of questions.
Are people getting the optional reference? From who?
What happens if you apply ED and their financial aid offer is a bit too much?
What about that “What else would you like us to know?” bit?
Are people filling that bit in? With what?
And the optional arts background thing.
I mean, my main strength lie in my achievements and other areas, but I do play the piano, and although I have no formal qualification, I am currently preparing for ATCL in Piano (sort of the same as Dip.ABRSM).
That’s planned for next year though so if I want to submit, I’ll need to do a bit of extra practice.
I am not going to be studying music performance at Princeton, it’s just a hobby, and I am no virtuoso by any standards, but I’m okay.
Would sending in a music CD help me with my chance?

Thanks for any help.
Nice to finally put my name down for Princeton ED.
Kind regards
Eric

sigh … my chances just seem to be going down … u know eric ur like almost an alter ego to me. Its really freaky how we both want to do maths, both play rugby, and the piano. The difference is your academically soo much better cauz of the IMO and your load of scholarships and stuff.

My only advantage is that my rugby is almost national level and my rec from our state coach wrote that if i continued to play rugby, I have a very good chance to play for the national side in a few years and turn pro etc etc. But then, i dunno why i would wanna play rugby pro cauz even the kiwi’s are beating us :stuck_out_tongue: . I have the feeling they (adcoms) would rather choose an academically superior person than one that plays alot of rugby… sigh. well at least princeton has a rugby team …

are you my twin separated at birth?

EDIT: oh and with the piano thing- unless you’re really world class or exceptional you shouldn’t send in a tape quite simply because considering who you are being compared with (world class players) it won’t help your chances at all if not hinder them.

Hey, totally random, but…

anyone here have a Facebook? (There’s a high school version.)

Well, Kjoodles.
I am your twin brother separated at birth.
Like seriously… I actually am.

Don’t discount the rugby. I actually have guy in my class of '78 who was from NZ and played rugby for Princeton. He is now in Mass as a surgeon or something…

I’ve completed my college tours, and have decided on Princeton ED! Add me to the roster!!! :D

I plan on visiting Princeton in the first or third week of October…

hurray for glinda!!! :D

powerofprocrastination: trust me - a visit to princeton will absolutely solidify your obsession. Have fun.

Add me to the ED Pool!

I’m an IB student from Florida, and after doing the college tour thing a few months ago I was totally smitten with Princeton. Plus, I like tigers.

Seriously though, I’m hoping to get in pretty much on fencing and research work. I’d better not have worked over a year designing a Nd-detection system just for a measly 8.50/hr (when my boss jokes about getting paid 150k/year to have the interns do his work!!)

So, hope to see you guys at Pton!

At least you got paid for your research. I would not be complaining too much if I were you.

koala717-if this goes through, I’ll be spending 5 (!) days at Princeton, during my school’s designated miss-school-to-go-visit-college time, living with a friend’s friend (and the original friend, of course). I expect that I’ll be able to visit classes and experience life on the Street, but what else would you suggest I take a look at?

oooo fun :)

Make sure you stop by Nassau Hall because it is BEAUTIFUL. I think you’ll find that the town is bigger than people make it out to be. Oh, and check out the indoor track (in Jadwin Gym) - I have run many races there! (though come to think of it, i’m not sure i’ve ever run a good race there…)

I doubt I’ll come close to your times, unless I use my bike or car
Is there anything you didn’t like about Princeton?
