For those of you going to LA Unifieds…did anyone get emails with specific rooms for the auditions? Most of the schools in Chicago sent room names/numbers in advance ( there were a few exceptions), but for LA, we haven’t seen any actual room names/numbers. Or maybe my D was too busy at Chicago Unifieds and didn’t catch emails?
@mtmom1967 We drove our own car. But when we fly somewhere I almost always rent. At Coastal there is nothing nearby so you will be Ubering to go get anything. Unless the cars at Myrtle are expensive I would rent
We stay at surf side beach when visiting our daughter at Coastal. It’s an easy 20 minutes drive to the University and we love the beach.
@mamaboyz out of that list the only ones I’m not sure about is Montclair and Pace, The others definitely do have fall auditions. We did not audition at Boco, but I know they have Early Action as does Elon. We did a BW audition in early November.
@mtmom1967 Comfort Inn and Suites is close by and clean. There is also a Hampton Inn that is nice a little further down the 501 but still close. I wouldn’t recommend any other hotels close to the school other than those. Staying at the beach is great and you can find some good deals. Just be aware to add in extra time to get to the school as traffic on 501 can be pretty bad (especially during rush hour times). Renting a car is super easy at the Myrtle Airport and is usually what we do, unless our D can pick us up and let us use her car while we are there. Uber is good too if you prefer not to rent a car. My D will be running your audition day, so I wish your student the best and have fun!
anotherBwaymom Thanks! Does your daughter attend Coastal?
@mamaboyz , Pace added an audition in December just this year. Not sure about Montclair, we did that at Unifieds.
@stagedoormama Thank you for your advice! Think we will stay closer to campus so not to worry about traffic and getting to audition. How is your daughter doing at Coastal?
I just read Ms Bussert’s facebook post and the comments of other educators - and I find them really upsetting. Talk about red flags, I would take those schools off my list!! I don’t post often, but I don’t think she/they really understand what college confidential is about
@actorparent1 - that artsbridge person was once the head of admissions for BoCo. I don’t know what happened, but I do know of members who have been removed for violation of TOS - and one of them is not to disclose that you are a college official… perhaps that was part of the problem?
someone has a school logo as their icon? Is that really a violation?
@mamaboyz - I am FAR from an expert on TOS. But I know people have been kicked off for pretending to be someone else, and if you WORK for a college, you are supposed to disclose it. I know absolutely NOTHING about what the former BoCo/Current Artsbridge person is referring to - just suggesting a possibility.
@mtmom1967 Yes she is a freshman MT there! Feel free to PM any questions. She loves it!!!
@anotherBwaymom Thank you! I will!
@mtmom1967- D is a senior MT and is very happy with her program.
Feel free to message me any questions! (Though you will need to wait till you get to 15 posts as CC doesn’t allow messaging until you hit that number.)
Hey Guys - Check out the comments of Bussert’s FB post again! A “concerned” BW parent (and CC contributor? Sure would seem to be) sent her MY post from yesterday - and she shared it to add to the conversation!! Wow - I feel honored… 8-}
Hey - my kid graduated, and is out in the world… making a living as an artist I might add. I’m just hear trying to build a bridge rather than put a wall
I agree with whoever said the whole process is a cluster&#%~.
No one really refute this can they?
Thank you that is all.
Did anyone else’s child report that Syracuse were difficult in the audition room. Unfriendly, making strange comments?
Disgusted edit to post 2915 above - I do know the difference between “here” and “hear” - but voice to text does not
That FB thread was a bit disheartening (what people think of CC). Honestly, it is ‘a lot’ sometimes, and I agree that the ‘vent’ thread can be overwhelming; I thought so last year and would have loved to see certain topics divided up into more organized threads (as mentioned three pages ago about Walk-ins); it would just be easier to keep certain conversations ongoing and easier to follow. But I digress…
For many, this is their sole source of info on these issues. It’s one of the first things that comes up in a google search when you search a question about a certain school/audition process (that’s how I found it years ago). It’s our experiences and (in some cases) opinions. It’s a place to support and provide tips and odds/ends. I’ve met some very caring and supportive people here, whom I stay in touch with off this board, where we continue to share our kids’ journeys, and provide support to those going through the process now.
However, to defend VB’s opinion on the annual rumor: Why is this even a thing? Why do people need to stir the pot? I think this goes hand in hand with “worry about your own kid’s journey.” While I do believe any successful program is a result of good leadership, I believe that if any school changes leadership, the process is well thought out and deliberate. They don’t just hand it over to someone who is clueless and incompetent. There are so many layers of leadership trickling down from the top that are involved with all decisions.
