For those of you that heard from Montclair did you get an email or just checked the portal?
@MTVTmom Congrats to your D! That is great news, especially because she fought so hard for it. Can I ask if the portal said “accepted” or “Conditionally accepted”? My D said her portal says “Conditionally Accepted”. All her boxes are checked in terms of providing all the application documents. Thanks!
OK…I am getting nervous. So many are mentioning consistently checking portals…but we have (at this point) just been watching for an email alert to check the portal and/or nervously opening envelopes. Are some schools simply not communicating at all…leaving it to chance that the student is constantly checking the portals? Just want to make sure we have not been doing something “wrong”. Oh my…
Haven’t heard from Montclair yet, checked portal nothing since academic admittance last December. Are they rolling admissions?
@luvbloominroses we typically get an email saying to check portal. I notice some people are saying “portal”. So I decided to check Montclair and there was a notice there. It was odd that we didn’t get an email notification. I started checking all portals last night.
Does you know what order TX State will start sending out decisions? I see that some have received acceptance calls. Will they send out priority hold, waitlist and rejections after calls are made?
D received an email from Kaitlin today since she attended Nexus. She said if you haven’t heard from TXST already, you should within the next two weeks. Our notifications will go out in waves as we complete weekend deliberations. We do those deliberations in groups, so those notifications (priority hold, rejections and offers) tend to be staggered.
I know for the schools it’s a business and their job to try to get kids to attend their school with an alternate major, but it kinda stinks when you get four pieces of mail in one day, including a large scholarship, from schools that gave you artistic rejections. My D is saving everything for a large cathartic fire following her decision. She got her first rejection that has really hurt (because she fell in love) today. She’s handling it, but I can tell she’s bummed.
OMG this just brought a tear to my eye! Congratulations to your daughter for not only getting accepted but for being confident enough in her talent to not give up!!
@MTSongbirdMom We’re planning a fire too! My D has a huge overflowing storage container full of mail. It’s going to be a big bonfire.
A lot of high schools want to know scholarship totals, so save that information if yours might. Ours wanted a total of all amounts awarded. We still had some of D1’s but didn’t keep up with the ones where she got no’s, or that she knew she would decline once she got an acceptance from a school she loved. With D2 I kept the totals on the spreadsheet & didn’t delete them.
Re Montclair, last year - son received his decision in a n emailed letter attachment. The letter was dated 2/27. Break legs all!
Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced decent hotel near Pace? TIA!
On scholarships, a lot of state colleges sent my S out of state tuition waivers for schools he didn’t even apply to. Sometimes that’s a difference of $20,000 per year. It’s hard for us to call that a scholarship when we’d still be paying $100,000 for a college education instead of $180,000. It’s better than paying out of state tuition but wasn’t ever considered a realistic offer. It makes for an interesting tidbit though when a high school wants to claim millions of dollars of scholarships received.
@ourturn2 - we stayed at Gild Hall which is 4 blocks from Pace and loved it. There are almost always sub-$200 deals on Priceline for it and it’s super nice. But there’s also a Hampton Inn close by that will run cheaper on some dates - make sure to check Priceline or Hotwire and not just the hotel sites. Any Wall St hotels will be close and Wall Street hotels frequently go on sale on the discount sites. Did your S or D get good news?
to add to the discussion of cruel rejections. My D received one on Friday. It was a giant envelope with congrats and welcome to the “___” (insert mascot name) family. Inside envelope was a brightly colored folder that said as you prepare to celebrate the moment, inside the folder were stickers and other fun things. Then underneath that was a letter that said thanks for your application to the BFA MT program after careful review we are unable to offer you a spot in the program. SAY WHAT? Talk about mixed messages. D had already received academic acceptance to this program to the BA Theatre degree back in November. Like others have said not a great way to encorage someone to want to take them up on that offer.
@ourturn2 I visit my D at Pace frequently and really like the ALoft Downtown-it’s one block from Pace. They have great rates. Same with Holiday Inn Wall Street and RC Marriott Downtown.
Thanks so much @CaMom13 and @Gapyearguru! And no pace news here yet - just have an older D doing strawhats next month.
Interesting…we looked up Conditionally Admitted at Rider and it’s basically a redirect. I specifically asked the program director at Unified’s if they redirect if it’s a “no” for MT and he said they don’t. Well, I guess they do. Go figure…
@boilermom, that is horrible!!! I’m so sorry. What are these schools thinking???
About saving the scholarship letters: definitely do that, because you can use them to get more money from the school that you do want to go to. You send your chosen school a letter saying that it’s your top choice and you really want to go there, but you need more money to make it happen, and can they match the offer you got from this other school? And show them the letter as proof.
