The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

Class of 2023 so agree with CAMom13. Those of you with multiple offers release your for sure no’s to acceptances you don’t want. Let colleges know. You may think a week or so doesn’t matter & might be busy with a Spring Break trip. But a week’s difference does matter. Especially with alternating Spring Breaks for high schools & colleges alike. Waitlisted folks really get tons of extra anxiety thrown at them right at the end. Be kind & decline and keep up the Good Karma. All these MT kids want a spot. I know financial aide can hold decisions up. But if at all possible let go of your for sure no’s. MT kids & families are amazing. The process is hard for all. Early releases can really help your fellow MT applicant.

Yes. Please do release your sure noes. But at the same time, don’t be pressured to release an acceptance. Many people on these threads have talked about how visits to schools have changed their favorites 180 degrees. I know we’re all waiting anxiously, but for the sake of your kid, do your due diligence. It sucks waiting, but this is the process.

@penny1234 as kategrizz said at U of Mich you can’t automatically just attend if you got a no for MT or acting. At the info session at on campus auditions they specifically addressed this. They said if you want U of M no matter what you need to have applied to either LS &A as an undecided major or to STMD for the BA theatre. If you hadn’t applied you cant just attend even though you’ve met their academic threshold you don’t have a spot at the school unlike Penn State and many others where you have a seperate academic admittance.
That being said if you did apply seperately then they said there were many opportunities to perform

My daughter was in much the same place last year at this time. One acceptance to a program she was ho hum about, one waitlist for a reach school and a whole lot of rejections! She ended up getting into the University of Miami from her walk in audition in Chicago at the end of March and that’s where she is today – and loving it. Funny thing is that even after a year, people on CC are still talking about the same 20 schools primarily. It’s part of the problem with this whole process. There are so many MT and Acting programs out there that people barely consider because they aren’t the top, well known schools. Keep your spirits up. I know something good will come along soon for you guys.

S released 4 today. We discussed how there are many kids waiting to hear, just as he is waiting to hear from some other schools. He knew that he would not attend the schools that he released today. He did hold onto a couple that are doubtful, but he wasn’t ready to say with certainty yet. In the end, it’s his process. He’s the one who did the hard work. He has to be comfortable with the decisions he makes.

@CaMom13 @Kkrazie
You motivated me to do what my D has been saying all along…we declined an offer to a school where she was re-directed. It’s hard to let that bird-in-the-hand go but you’re right, if they’re not really interested, it’s not right to hold up the spot.

@NYYFanNowMTdad do you have Kim @ Montclair State’s last name? Thanks!

@4angelshttps://www.montclair.edu/profilepages/view_profile.php?username=whittamk

does this work?

@“boola boola” and @NYart15 You guys da bomb. Seriously, I can only imagine how hard it is to let go of any possibilities, given how hard your families have worked to get your performer where he or she is right now. But everyone else appreciates you “letting go” of the non-starters (for him or her) because they are definite starters for someone else!!! For sure you should hold onto the doubtful ones and/or the affordable ones until you’re quite sure what that final decision will be. I hope that good karma carries through to the rest of your admission decisions!

If you know for sure it’s a no, go ahead and decline. Just know that your kid saying no doesn’t mean another kid automatically comes off a waitlist. Schools accept more students than they have spots to yield the desired class size. So they’d go to the waitlist only if all extra 20 kids they’ve already accepted decline. The waitlist acceptances are a pretty small percentage of the overall pool. But it does happen and when it does, it’s glorious!

Has anyone received or heard of anyone that’s received an alternate letter from FSU?

We will be looking at the acceptances on S’s list and releasing a few. Please know we will release as we can…the downside is that we are still waiting on financials for many of them…sigh…I wish we had all the info so we could release most, and hopefully open something up for someone else.

I honestly have no idea if or how the odds change for other kids by releasing offers. I do believe that some schools have much lower yields than others, and my hope is that the more offers that are released, the more the school will need to draw from the waitlist. In any event, it can’t hurt. What I want is for every kid represented on this forum to find a school that is great for them. This place is a community, just like unifieds becomes a community. We are all on the same crazy journey, even though the destinations are different. Good luck everyone, and keep the faith!

@“boola boola” @ NYart15 @ lithpool y’all are good folk! Class of 2022 went soooo deep in calendar last year with acceptances & waitlist movement. It was really tough on girls especially as applications were record high from prior years. National coaches said it was the latest many schools had ever notified coming right up to May 1 deadline & beyond. Hoping Class of 2023 gets all these offers/decisions/waitlists wrapped up quicker so these great MT kids & families can move on with plans & enjoy those last precious days of Senior year of high school. If only these schools all notified at once with financial aide too. The process is just so stressful, complicated & costly. MT is such a great community. The journey is like no other. Good Karma abounds.

@vnstar sent you a PM:)

As they don’t have their own thread, I would love to hear from current parents/students about University of Utah’s MTP program and university. My D’s friend got an acceptance and he’s not on CC so asked for any insight. Many Thanks!

@MI3rdClosingAct my D was also accepted and has a family friend who graduated from the program last year. She had coffee with the alum recently to ask a bunch of questions. If you want to PM me questions, I can see if they are similar to my D’s and try to answer or ask her to do so. I know the program is definitely in the running for her right now. Her friend felt like she got a strong foundation, cast in professional shows throughout college and is now going back to UT for a premier of a show that she was in while it was workshopped.

Does the West Coast have an audition similar to NYC Combines, Moonifieds or CAP Auditions where one can audition for several schools at once? Not LA Unifieds. … but the more private auditions or pay to play auditions for a big group of MT programs at once?

@Kkrazie - I don’t think so.

CAn anyone share info on IWU and TCU? I just keep coming up with the two blogs that put them it top ten but no idea why they are listed. Can anyone offer a comparison? I don’t put a lot of stock in rankings and would like to find real objective info.
