The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@JJMmom and @lithpool Our D’s Temple portal changed only a few days ago to “Accepted BFA Musical Theater.” We assumed it was just an academic acceptance. D called today and was told it was BFA MT acceptance (which is tied to academic). And they just now followed up with an email. So hopefully your portals will be updated soon. My D auditioned at NY Unifieds, so it certainly took a while.

My D just received a phone call from Dominick Amendum from UNCG: She is one of the six for MT! One down, how many to go…

@BWmama Woohoo! Congrats!!!

Anyone know University of Utah BFA acting class incoming freshman class size.

@jbrown - try to get your student into a class or two so they can experience what the classes are like.

@BWmama, Congratulations!!! Woo hoo!

@BWmama - congrats to your D!

The West Coast does have a Combines Audition in October @Kkrazie - but its not well known or publicized. There is an event each year in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Arts Academy. I took my D for it this past October. There were a number of schools there… among them CalArts, LIU, Montclair, The New School - 17 total I believe. The audition format was the student gives performs in front a panel of all the auditors at once. Then you get “callbacks” to the schools that are interested in you. My D got callbacks to 14 programs, and 3 offers including a formal BFA Acceptance from this event. It was a great way to start off audition season for her. Here’s the accptd page for it - https://app.getacceptd.com/lasvegasacademy

Thanks for advice!

@Trish0118 Thank you for replying to my question but I’ve asked several and not sure which school you were referring to… was it Pace?

Congrats to all the acceptances today. @BWmama do you know if any acting calls went out for UNCG or only MT

Does anyone out there know what the best process is for “dealing with” wait lists? We have been told that you can call the school/program to find out where they are on the wait list, but I definitely don’t want anyone in this household to seem pushy. I know that there will be a great deal of shuffling in the near future, but also know that some spots may not open, and feel like I need to guide my cherub into finding a wonderful place to be without feeling like he has to hold out for coming off a list. I want to know if he is #2 or #50 on a list…etc. It will make a big difference how we approach the next few weeks in planning college visits, etc. Thoughts?

@luvbloominroses there’s a great thread in this forum about waitlists. Check it out:

If you auditioned for acting and music theatre at a school and they were seperate auditions. Do they send you seperate decisions, or do they choose one for you?

I guess my question is, has anyone gotten a BFA acting and a BFA MT acceptance from the same school?

@BWmama Hey. Hey. Hey. Very nice. Congratulations to you two! Very happy for you both!

@luvbloominroses all schools seem to handle waitlists differently . In our experience my D was on a waitlist for a school & it was a top choice for her. So she opted to stay on it till the bitter end lol. We also made a visit to the school as it wasn’t that far to drive to, to show interest etc.
in the end she was ultimately released from it with no offer.
We never knew what her standing was on the waitlist there, like fifth or 20th or was she directly “behind “ another candidate who was her type etc.

@Medusa29 I am not sure, but don’t be shy about sending an email.

Are there any thoughts about SMU’s program out there? Great school with nice people, just wondering about the strength of the program.

@NoMTinMD My D auditioned for a school that houses its MT program in the Music school and the Acting program in the Theatre school (different Program Directors). She applied for MT. Was offered a seat in both programs. Offers came separately and scholarship money was also offered separately and was different amounts.

For those inquiring about BA’s - D is in a BA program. She personally enjoys the gen ed classes she is taking and has quite a few choices. She had to take a required math class - but otherwise has taken World Lit, Politics in Lit and Film, Politics in Terrorism, History in Theatre and one of her favorites - Astronomy II (she is an astronomy nerd) She likes that she can get a break from the rigors of all the theatre training and take some regular college course and hang with kids outside the theatre department. This is not for everyone - if your kids prefer conservatory style training, BA is not quite that.
