@mamaboyz, most schools want you to have the college application in before you set up the audition, but it’s just the application ITSELF, not all the extra pieces like transcripts, recommendations, etc. So just get the basic application or Common App done and sent in, and then the transcript and everything else can come later.
@mamaboyz For BW (and others) you don’t have to have all your supplements (transcripts, letters of recommendation, counselor eval, etc.) turned in to schedule the audition. You just have to submit the application, audition/artistic form, and audition fee paid to be scheduled. There you can even wait and submit the artistic essay after the fact. I am not sure about CCM. But I think all their slots don’t fill until end of October. It was just the fall dates that filled quickly in September. I could be wrong. We’re lucky that the counselors at our schools work year round. So they we’re able to get her transcripts sent this summer. But I know that isn’t an option for many.
@mamaboyz I know BW filled up for November, but other dates are available. My D just scheduled for Feb 17. We also don’t start until after Labor Day, but our counselors start at least a couple weeks before school starts. We had transcript and recommendation letter requests into him in August - but some requests are still lagging. Had to meet with him to explain why so many (he was wanting my daughter to not apply to more than 6 schools at first).
I’m sure someone has already asked this question, but how long does it take to hear back from most Prescreens? I uploaded mine tonight and most said I should hear back within 2-3 weeks. In people’s experiences, is it typical for it to take the full 2-3 weeks?
I think most will let you know in about 2 weeks
@MThopeful2022 my S heard back from IU within 2 weeks; Coastal Carolina was sent within 2 weeks as well but there was an email error. Still waiting to hear from Shenandoah, its been almost 2 weeks for them.
I think it depends also if they do a couple rounds. My D couldn’t get recordings and application done in time to submit to PSU for their September 30 cutoff. She submitted last week - and when we asked if she’d still be considered for December auditions we were told the staff won’t even start looking at the post-September submissions until the current semester is over in late December.
Syracuse was close to two weeks–but CMU and Pace were in 2-3 days of submission. And as @afterp89 said, I think schools like Michigan and Penn State that have a couple different “cutoff” dates may take longer because reviewing all at once. It’s a nail-biter, the waiting. And this is just round 1!
I heard from Molloy/CAP 21 last night finally. With them, you can’t schedule audition until you are academically cleared (close to 4 weeks - I was surprised it took so long!). My son got the email from Rebecca Overton last night to schedule the audition. The audition portal looked like there were plenty of slots available at both Unifides and on-campus.
So, for my DS, it all begins today! First audition this afternoon at Fairleigh Dickerson in Madison, NJ! 1 monologue & 1 32-bar song of choice. No dance call. He’s using it as a practice, but it’s still exciting, nervous, all of the above!
@NYKaren - good luck
@loribelle Brenau is an awesome program. I’m from Georgia and have met their musical theatre director, Rick Gomez. The program isn’t as well known as some but they are up and coming. Their dance program made the top 25 in OnStage Blog this year. Their productions are amazing. It’s definitely a program to look at.
@NYKaren Break a leg. It is nerve-wracking and exciting!
@NYKaren Break a Leg! Exciting times ahead! My D also got her email from Molloy/Cap21 last night and we scheduled for Unifieds. Last non-pre screen audition scheduled! Now if we can get the pre-screens finished next week!
Im a junior, and just planning for next year. Say you are applying to 10 programs, and 5 of them have prescreens. Say you don’t pass 3, so you have 7 schools that you will audition live for. Is it typical to add more schools that don’t have prescreens so you have more chances?? Thanks!
@elledaspitzer 7 seams like you might want to add more. I think it might depend what those 7 schools are. If they are all reaches then absolutely yes. It also depends on how much experience you have, what your academic profile looks like and if perhaps you are a triple threat.
@elledaspitzer my D is a junior this year too, she is planning on 15-20 and if less prescreens than hoped for are passed adding more in the late fall…most of the threads on here say to have 8-10 tier 1 5+ tier 2 and 1-2 non audition safeties that you confidently qualify for academically ( ie northwestern is not an academic safety for most people). hope that helps
@elledaspitzer my D applied to 20 - out of the 20 - 10 were pre-screens and so far she has passed 5 (Coastal, Emerson, Ithaca, Syracuse, and Rider) was not accepted to 2 (Penn State and Shenandoah); and we are waiting on 3 more (Temple, FSU, and Elon). Pending on the last 3 she could have 18 or 15 schools to audition for.
What schools are considered “tier 2?”
How long does it take to hear back from Shenandoah? THX!
