@MThopeful2022 Thank you!
@jbrown Wow! What a coincidence ? Totally agree with you about a good acting foundation. My son graduated from a PA high school where they stressed the importance of acting first. He was taught early on that a good voice may get you a callback, but great acting will book you the job.
Thanks for letting me know about the dance and voice classes — I get little to no details about school, but honestly it’s nice to sit back and just enjoy his excitement without having to worry about much. He’s in good hands there.
@love2share
You can drive from nyc to Philly in about hr and half. Boston is a 4.5 hr drive to NYC (non peak hrs). There is an acella train from NYC/Penn station to Boston which is high speed but can be $$. You can get s JetBlue tix from NYC-Boston flight very cheap.
Hint: fly into newark not JFK. JFK can take hours to get into the city w bumper to bumper traffic truly a pain.
@mamaboyz Thank you for the money saving tips!
@love2share Second flying into Newark! So easy to get to Penn and cheaper too with NJ Transit. Last time we took a Lyft from the Fin District to Newark and was only $56 or so.
@love2share Last year we flew into Newark, looked at NYC things, took a non-stop bus to Philly, checked it out, and flew home from there. My D’s description of the bus ride, “It wasn’t glamorous, but got the job done.” (We had money for a train to Philly or take in a show. Guess which won?) If you are looking at Temple, we chose to stay downtown and take an Uber to campus. The train (Septa) was easy to the airport._
@PaperTrope Thank you for the info!
So @love2share just a follow on for bus vs train - the Megabus is a steal at $11pp from Port Authority NY to 30th Street Stn Philly. estimate is a 2 hour ride but that will depend on traffic. The normal Amtrak is $60 pp from Penn Station and takes an hour and 40 mins, the Acela is $113 and takes an hour and 18 minutes! Wow! What a wild variance for a difference of 42 minutes!
@CaMom13 Again, thank you for the detailed comparisons!
Hint: LGA and JFK might have cheaper flights but theres a reason. Such a pain to get into city. Also you can take a train from Newark right into Penn Station which is super convenient and fast. There are what ppl call “Chinese” buses which are very cheap but the same coach buses from NYC to Boston. They are run by Asian companies and mostly with Asian tourist but again very very affordable and many people use them:). Not sure the name of them but you can ask at Port Authority (on 42nd St where all buses run out of). Penn Station is for trains (FYI). The Acela to Boston does not stop in New Haven. (If you take an Amtrak the train will stop in New Haven to switch tracks for 20 minutes and it can be annoying). This is why people chose the Acela.
That was off topic^^ PM me for more ?'s lol
@love2share. Great info you got on transportation! A few more ideas.
You can take a train shuttle from Newark to Grand Central in NYC for $8.25 one way. What a lot of the locals do.
Even if the Bolt Bus or Mega Bus are cheaper, if you are on a time crunch, Amtrak is easier. I love to save money, but often choose Amtrak because of the time savings and reliability. If you choose Amtrak, look for specials - the sooner you book, the cheaper it is.
Did you say you wanted to include Boston? There are often cheap flights there from Philly or Newark.
@mamaboyz and @artandtechmom Thank you so much for the detailed info! (Yes, Boston is a possibility)
@love2share also know if the less expensive flight is to JFK airport you can take the train (the A train on the MTA subway) into NYC from the airport. It’s easy and fast & you don’t deal with traffic.
@BettyBNYC2023 Thank you so much!
After 13 no’s, 1 redirect, and 1 waitlist, my kid received a BFA MT acceptance - Roosevelt CCPA! Super happy, relieved, grateful, exhausted. Thank you to all the CCer’s who sent out good vibes, joined the kick-line, and the song chain, it worked! She has 4 schools still to hear from plus a late audition at OKCU this weekend (dance performance). Pulling for everyone out there waiting for their first yes, or their best fit!
@sladdymtmom Yay! Congrats on Roosevelt! So happy for you and your D!
Congratulations @sladdymtmom !!! My son is a sophomore MT major at CCPA. Please send me a PM if you have any questions about the program
