Hello everyone! Does anyone know if Millikin University’s BA in Theatre is a non-audition program?
Awesome @“boola boola”! I hope he got $$$ or your decision might be easier than you were worried about.
@BoolaBoola woohoo!! Congratulations!
@SB252001 Yes, it is a non audition. But they just finished Phantom of the Opera and the two leads were Theatre BAs!
D was accepted into American’s MT program- however invited to start the year off with a mentorship either in DC or England? Then begin in spring as a official “student” Total curve ball. I’m wondering if anyone has done this? Or if you are in the same boat trying to determine if you will do this? Please feel free to pm me as well.
The American mentorship opportunity also said- if my D didn’t want to participate in mentorship- she could just start in spring. Makes me wonder if she should do another round of early auditions next fall if there is school she’d like to have another crack at…like a half-gap year?? This process is really making me crazy. She has options- I should be celebrating- but the rejections have been so disappointing. We got hit hard this weekend with 2 rejections from schools she had her eye on.
@“boola boola” congratulations! The question I would have on USC is…what are their industry connections in the area your S wants to be? Do they do master classes with working professionals from that area?My S really wants to be in NYC as a professional and turned down a regional program he really liked primarily because they just weren’t well connected there in favor of a program that is in NY and has those connections. Being outside major MT hub isn’t a bad thing…I would just want to know that the faculty has connections and has a plan to help their students forge those as well so they aren’t starting their network from scratch when they graduate.
@penny1234 - my D also was accepted to American mentorship (spring admit) last year and she wasn’t super happy about it either. If American is a top choice for your D then waiting a semester should be bearable but it’s a tough one to “celebrate” when your kid is ready to roll starting school in September. I guess a half-gap would allow you to do early decision for some new schools but I think if that’s the goal I would just do a gap year.
@speezagmom I totally agree with that, and it’s a major concern. Im not even sure what faculty are going to be teaching in the USC program. We’re going to see what we can find out.
@penny1234 I have seen this kind of offer for USC last year. Child was admitted to USC if he’d commit to a year at a satellite program in Paris his Freshman year. Then could come to USC as a full time student his Sophomore year. The parents & child accepted the offer. Sounded dreamy. But it has cost them a fortune & now child is looking & applying to more affordable schools for his sophomore year other than USC. Do research the costs. In retrospect these parents would have done it differently. USC offer wasn’t a MT offer but visual arts with a business school incentive. Once over in Europe the costs got out of hand. So coming back to USA to pay USC high tuition Sophomore year didn’t seem so dreamy after a very expensive Freshman year in France that wasn’t what they thought it would be. For this family it was a “bait/switch” in retrospect.
The AU “mentorship” program is optional, not required. It’s really a gussied up version of a spring admit.
@Debolution - sorry I’m just now seeing your post about OKCU. Happy to try to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to PM me.
@“boola boola” I feel your pain. I would have a very hard time turning down USC. In its favor, it already has established programs in theater and dance (amazing dance program), and he would get a true college experience. Odds are he will end up in NY after college, so I would definitely asked how they plan to help performers make that transition. But congrats! You have a tough decision.
Looking for any info on Coastal’s study abroad programs for MT BFAs…
Has anyone receive acceptance/denials/ waitlist for Western CT? I saw a few acceptances (2) on the accepted list, but we have not received email/snail mail…anything! If you did, please could you alert me to how it was received? May need to call college tomorrow as Tim Howard said decisions would be no later than 3/15
For those of you who have been on here for several years: when have you typically seen waitlists start to move in the past?
@4angels Coastal’s study abroad is done in Italy. The BFA Physical Acting students spend their junior year there. My son is a junior MT student and with the heavy load of classes they already have - it’s not always easy to add a semester abroad if you are BFA MT. It can be done - and the program is amazing - it just takes some planning. Let me know if you have any other Coastal questions - it’s a fantastic program.
@azmtmom13 I can only speak to last year, but it seems that all schools are different…most are in May…some June. I have even heard of later. Some don’t move at all! I am sure that it depends on the program and how quickly they receive denials. However, like I said, some programs just decide to go with a smaller class and don’t even visit the waitlist. Some schools will tell you now when you should expect to hear from them.
Waitlists: depending on school, but I have seen weekly posts on movement mostly in April, and then some in May. A few trickle in during the summer months.
Most people start to release school offers after doing some school visits. Our spring break here is a little later than normal: April 15-19.
@collegeboundSam- We received a waitlist letter by snail mail dated March 6th. Tim Howard did say at our parent meeting that you would not receive your artistic letter unless you had already been admitted to the university: there are two separate letters: one for university acceptance and one for the artistic decision. If you’ve already received the university admit, but haven’t received the artistic letter yet, I would call or email tomorrow. Your S has some great choices already!!!
