The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

Hi afterp89! I was wondering if you had any more information about mid atlantic regionals? I stumbled upon it the other day and was looking for more info.

Only what’s on the website and a little searching showed quite a few regional schools for Acting, MT, Design and Dance were there last year. They have a Facebook page and a slide from 2016 shows Adelphi, Alma College, Arcadia, Averett, DeSales, Emory & Henry, FDU, Gannon, Greensboro, IU of PA, Kean, Kean’s College, Lehigh, LIU Brooklyn, LIU Post, Marywood, Muhlenberg, Ohio U, PSU, Rider, Salisbury, SCAD, Shorter, Slippery Rock, Stevenson, Temple, Towson, Montevallo, West Florida, Wake Forest, West Chester, West Virginia, and Wilkes. I would imagine many of the same or similar schools for this year.

@afterp89 and @NYKaren it is my understanding that auditioning at the mid atlantic regionals does not replace the actual audition required for each school. Rather, it is an opportunity to meet some schools and possible scholarship opportunities but the student will still have to audition separately for the schools they are applying to.

@jbtcat, that’s what I thought too, but I found it through LIU Post who said that they will be holding auditions there and did so in 2017. So it might depend on the college??

My understanding is that may be the case for some, but some schools will make offers after call backs. It certainly will help narrow the focus.

@NYKaren I guess it is possible that some schools will consider it as the official audition but I would then make sure to check with each college because it clearly states on the MARCAS website that it does not replace college auditions. If a particular school is using it as the official audition, that’s great!

Unifieds on the other hand are actual auditions for the programs and no other audition is required.

@afterp89 I see you’re in MD? We were also in MD when my D auditioned . (She just completed freshman yr in her MT program) we have visited &/or auditioned at quite a few schools on the website for the Midatlantic regional event . Feel free to msg me if you have any questions about them.
I feel like after reading their site ( & these auditions must be relatively new as I did not know about them when we were auditioning) that it sounds like the junior auditions at SETC which my D attended. More like getting call backs & speaking w/ schools that are interested in you etc. very helpful to be sure but yes some schools will still make you sign up for an audition at the school.

@jbtcat yes we are planning on NY Unifides. I was just surprised when I saw this Mid-Atlantic Regional event on the LIU website. I had never heard of it before and I suppose some schools might be using this as a venue for off-campus auditions?

I feel like we have been preparing forever for senior year, but now that it is here, I feel so behind! I keep telling myself that we are probably ahead of the curve but my dd is out of town and I can’t do much without her. Just venting. Lol. Anyone else feel like you are in the “hurry up and wait” stage??

@theaterwork Would be open to any advice or comments. Haven’t figured out the messaging on this site yet though. My D is more interested in the suburban schools (traditional campus vs. vertical), but should be accessible to nearby city. Also looking for schools that offer the most performing opportunities.

@afterp89 I sent you a message. You just log in and click on the letter icon and you can see your messages. If you get emails when someone posts something and tags your name on it etc you willor should also get an email saying you have a private message.

Thank you @theaterwork - got your message and replied. I may have figured out the issue regarding messaging. You can’t send until you have at least 15 posts. Hopefully this post resolves the issue for me.

@mom2MTgal yes! I feel like we’re been getting ready, getting ready and now I feel behind! He’s doing everything he should like voice 1 or 2x week, plus monologue coach and 2 summer shows, but I feel behind! His coaches laugh at me though so I guess we’re in good shape!

Is there a FB group for this year’s kids yet? I know of a student looking to join

@toowonderful Yes there is. They changed the name. It’s called Courtney’s Break Room

Hi! New here and looking forward to sharing the stress and joy with like minded parents. My D is a senior and is excited and nervous for the next few months ahead. Thank you for the outlet!

@theaterwork…regarding your comment to @afterp89 i see some comments that reference a minimum number of posts to PM?

@nykaren- NY here too ( but my daughter is just a rising Junior so she is 2024 class ( likely). DOnt forget we go longer in NY than the rest of the world bc we observe so many Jewish holidays ( i can say that as I am Jewish  )

@NYYFanNowMTdad , Welcome! NY Met fan mom here  Yes, so do go sooo long and it makes the summer go so fast! Where are you located? We are in Staten Island. Where is your DD considering? Have you started to visit yet?

@NYKAREN- Long Island…the yankees have a minor league team in SI how can you be a mets fan  . Daughter is just a rising junior. we just left parents weekend in the 6 weeks MT program at Carnegie Melon. she will be home in 2+ weeks. starting the 1/2 day performing arts program at LIHSA. so we are " early" to the game, but im a researcher/preparer by nature. biggest challenge will be muscial theater D has a twin sister & interested in something completely unrelated ( animal sciences/ pre- vet) & dont want her to get the short end of the stick bc this process is so consuming…nice to meet you even if you are a mets fan
