@MomofJ5 - some hotels will - but you do need to check to be sure you are booking into one that will. We ran into that when D was a sophomore and traveling to summer stock auditions. It required a little research, but she found a hotel in the area that would book to her when she was 19 - almost 20.
Not to advocate for this but if you have a hilton honors account you can book rooms and check into hilton hotels online. Anyone who has the app signed into your HH account on their phone can use their phone as a room key and skip the front desk. If you add them as the second guest they have full privileges if the app doesn’t work so they can get a key at the front desk. If you book that way you (adult HH member) are strictly speaking responsible for all damages to the room. Not sure if HH actually would approve of this but in a pinch, it’ll work.
FYI - USC Hotel is ok for 18 + - just talked to them!
@theater9969 Glad to hear that! Just replied to you about hotel check-in on the Theater board - maybe it will be helpful to someone else… In my experience, 3 of the 4 hotels that are walking distance from my D’s school allow 18+ to check in, even though 21+ is the norm generally.
Elon emailed prescreen results to my D this afternoon. It’s a no. She submitted 6 and passed 4, so I told her to keep her head up! She had a feeling she didn’t make it through after submitting, so she isn’t too upset. We are heading to CMU this weekend, so that is her focus!
Moving onward, @carriemc95 – great attitude! BAL at CMU!
@carriemc95 My D also received a no from Elon today; it was her last pre-screen we were waiting on. In total she has applied to 20 programs and of those 8 required pre-screens and she passed 4. So that cuts her list down to 16 schools that will see her live. She has already auditioned live at 5 schools and therefore D has 11 live auditions scheduled between this weekend and the last weekend of February! Out of the 16 we already D has 1 BFA MT acceptance, 1 BFA Acting acceptance and a BA in Theater Arts acceptance, so D has some choices already. We are heading to Point Park this weekend and she is happy to have her final known list of appointments on the calendar.
Also, for those of you who have requested Chicago for Manhattan School of Music, they’ve updated the application portal with your audition times!
@MomofJ5 good for him! It’s great that he has the options to strengthen the other disciplines as well.
Ironically, Syracuse was her only pre-screen rejection! It hardly stung, because it was so early. I agree, earlier rejections are definitely better. We had a false sense of hope, having passed the other big ones (CMU, Michigan, Ithaca and Pace). At the end, when things aren’t looking good, and you’ve run out of steam, and are focused on graduating, AP exams (and in our case, the musical at school), it’s hard to put everything aside and come up with a plan B. We were very lucky that the one she ended up committing to was (in theory) the easiest audition! If we only knew that in September :))
We received a no from Elon today too. My son passed 11 out of 13 prescreens. Have to admit I’m relieved. Had no idea how we were going to fit in a visit to North Carolina when we have NY Unifieds, Chicago Unifieds, and CMU in middle of February!
i feel like we are about to buckle up and race on high octane starting this weekend and ending in March. DD has already had 3 live auditions from November\Dec and is slated for 9 more (with potential of 2-3 more). And while I feel some anxiety about what lies ahead, I feel like the tough part is behind us. All the applications, prescreens, and deadlines have come and gone (with the exception of 1 more) and all that is left to do is to show up! We’ve had a few Prescreen rejections but thankfully many more Prescreen acceptances and to those we got a rejection, I’m over it and feel like God was just watching out for us. Barring any real sickness or injury, I feel like there isn’t much left in our control. Not sure if anyone feels the same way, but I’m hoping to just enjoy the rest of the process cause this is where the fun starts… traveling to schools, experiencing new things and seeing new places and meeting new people. I’ve actually enjoyed the past 3 auditions with my DD as it was fun to just to watch her love what she is doing. I also enjoy seeing the creative energy from school faculty and students and chatting with other parents going through the same process. I realize we might go through this whole audition season and may not receive any offer but I think my DD will just take a gap year to regroup and try again if not. (And I guess I’m okay with that but truly hope she does get in somewhere and pray that she does get to do what she loves this Fall). Break Legs everyone, and I wish everyone good health and safe travels to all the auditions!
I’m so impressed with everyone’s energy and positive attitudes - you all continue to amaze me. I know bouncing back is part of the picture in this crazy process, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy and doesn’t mean everyone can do it. We’re heading into truly nutty season, and I am blown away by how supportive and positive you all are – thanks so much for the perspectives, the help, and helping us, too, to “find the fun” in all of this!! Away we go!!
I feel like we need to have parent’s night out when in NYC or Chicago for Unifieds! I know for me personally I feel like I will have earned a cocktail (or 12) by then!!
@Kristiern1
I think the Unifieds drinking ritual is a bit like beer pong, except you need to take one drink shot for every school your child has applied to. ?
Bwahaha @CanaDad - if you all play that way some of the parents will have quite the night!!!
I am going to need a lot of shots at Unifieds!!! Haha!
Oh I am right there with all of you!
@DramaQueen219 - it was probably the “easiest” audition because your D has what they were looking for. It’s great when there is a good fit. So happy it ended well for your D.
One of the things I wished we had done last year was plan to wear something that would have made it clear we were cc parents - like wear purple if you are on this board to your kid’s audition. I kept asking the people I met at auditions if they were on the cc boards, but didn’t ever find anyone who contributed.
Hey, would it be fun at NY unified’s coming up soon, if us parents wore name tags with our usernames. I’m sure that we all would be relieved to have some common hugs amidst the stress.
